Hi all -- saw a few related threads to this topic, but all went in a very different direction than I'm after here...

In short, I would like to automatically disable traction control that is akin to pushing the ESC button once (not holding it down). For background, I live in a rural ranch environment and would prefer the driving characteristics of this reduced sensitivity on loose surfaces (either in 2H or 4H). I find the factory default much too sensitive (on all surfaces). Anyhow, I have also done this on other vehicles recently through tuning. I prefer not to physically cycle buttons where I can avoid it...

I have seen settings in JSCAN that let me disable ESC and ABS together but seem duration limited to a number of start cycles. I also don't want to disable ABS as a default; I'm fine with with the normal manual method of disabling this when needed. I really like the "Off Road +" preset and use it all the time in 4H in deep washes and similar.

Again, I appreciate the factory safety features with ESC and ABS and I'm only looking to automatically defeat the first "level" of electronic stability control. Is this possible with JSCAN? Thanks!

Its a live function with the Tazr, but you can disable the traction control. So once the Tazr is installed turn the Traction control off and it will remember it as long as the Tazr is installed........works the same way with the auto start stop function

Ah okay, so only a "live function" so far, huh? Darn...was hoping there was a value that could just be altered. I have an OBD-port Garmin dash cam that uses the port and generally do not prefer to leave the TAZR installed.

My Tazr is plugged into the Security Gateway port......so my OBD2 is still open

Ah! So my 2018 JL Wrangler did not have the Secure Gateway (surprised most) and just used the OBD port without the bypass...

Since this is new to me, I thought the OBD port was rendered inoperative with the bypass cable. It is not? That is good news...

...except I sold my TAZR and would need a new one...which is why I want JSCAN this time around! :)

If you want to know if JSCAN can or can't, I suggest you go to their Facebook page and PM the fellow. You get really quick response from him that way. Or ask on their FB page as someone there may know the answer already. They seem to do a lot more interacting on FB than any other method at all.

No matter what you use other than Tazer, it would require a security bypass cable -
Tazer is a bypass by itself so acts as the bypass cable and the device.

So AlfaOBD or JSCAN would require the bypass cable and bluetooth interface to plug into the bypass cable. That leaves the OBD port wide open for your Garmin or whatever.
Tazer is the bypass and would need to be left in place for many things (disclaimer - that's just my understanding - I do not own Tazer. I use JSCAN and AlfaOBD)

Thank you, I appreciate that. I don't use FB but expect that's a fairly common request. I just might get another Tazer. Unless things have changed, it appeared to use a timer and send a pulse to toggle the function (effectively a "press" of the button). I noticed that because it would occasionally not toggle the function off. Again, why I'd prefer a cleaner solution if available.

Regarding the bypass cable, my earlier comment was that my early 2-door JL did not need the cable, but others did around the same build window (heard it expressed as 90% did). So, I had the Tazer JL connected directly to the OBD-2 port without it. I sold it to a guy with a JT and it did not work without the bypass cable. Apparently all need them now? Yes, I'm glad the OBD port remains available!

Anyhow, the security mechanism is simple but effective enough without a major design change. While enthusiasts find a a way, the vast majority of Jeeps probably remain unmodified. I plan to just leave my bypass cable in place. Those cables were pretty hard for me to pull out!

ZAutomotive sells an extension cable that plugs into the security gateway. It makes it real easy to use the security bypass cable and then reconnect everything. You only need to tear up your hands one time to install the extension cable.

On a related note, anyone here ever try the disablement for x number of starts (JSCAN)? I could see that being useful on an off-road trip with lots of stops and starts, but was hoping the arbitrary # could be higher (99 or FF!). I think the highest I saw in there was five.

I'm coming from tuning Fords and using FORSCAN for such things, and have to say I really like that JSCAN is available for mobile devices. The BT 4.0LE adapter has been flawless with it. One thing that was really odd was changing TPMS load values. There seems to be some kind of hysteresis function built in there...and I can appreciate why, with transient conditions etc. Still, it took a long time to take effect on my JT. The old settings persisted through several restarts and ECU reboots (cold/soft). JSCAN tool tip suggested it could take "five minutes" but I'd say mine was closer to an hour...even then the right rear persisted another few minutes. All set now, however...

Back to the main topic, on my Ford, it could not be done in FORSCAN either. Instead, the factory function could be suppressed (*Edit: by remapping the ECU when in there changing other performance parameters). It was really nice, since like removing the first layer of ESC, but it did not illuminate the orange dash indicator.

Yes, that's nice! I saw that...and figured that was how they did their bypass. I might grab those to keep it looking factory.
