Literally just happened to have this link open on my computer, but I think this is it. No idea if it is a good one, so I'd verify that first. Can someone link me to or tell me what brand obd adapter and extension cable everyone is using with jscan.
I saw it in a post with links to Amazon but I searched and can’t find it.
Thanks so much. Exactly what I was searching for. Much appreciatedThis is the adapter I have - I bought a cheaper one earlier but then opted for this to negate and speed issues

This is the security bypass cable I use -

This is the FIRST adapter I bought - it actually works fine -

If you actually want an EXTENSION to make it easier to plug in, rather than reaching clear up to the gateway (which is hard to reach on my Overland) - there's this extension cable. It's not the bypass cable you need, it simply extends the security gateway ports down for you -

I use this stuff for my JSCAN and even AlfaOBD
Jscan is the easiest, IMO. It's more intuitive, and it has a search function to help find what you are looking for.@ShadowsPapa if you are only changing tire size and gear ratio, which of the programs that you use is easier? Jscan, AlfaOBD or ECRI? I have the bypass cable in my cart, and I know I can use the slower obd reader for changing those settings, but not sure which of the tuning programs is easier to use
If you don't want to use any of the live functions, do you need the extension cable?Jscan is the easiest, IMO. It's more intuitive, and it has a search function to help find what you are looking for.
It started out as a way for a Jeep owner to diagnose things with his own Jeep, and make changes to things like tire sizes and such, and he grew it out from there and made it available.
I also like the monitoring it has - if your Jeep has misfire issues, you can show that as you drive in a VERY simple display.
For me a plus I didn't know about until later snooping around in the program -
it also has the ability to control idle speed - in times when using a winch and you need electric power, you can leave the engine running, and use jscan to increase idle speed - 1500 rpm, 1800 rpm, whatever, so the alternator is supplying power and you aren't taking it all out of the batteries.
(you do need the bypass in place for this, of course)
The extension cable is so that you don't rip your hands up or struggle to unplug the security gateway cables to plug in the bypass cable. Reaching the connections on my Overland's security gateway and pushing the clip in to release the latch and pulling the cable down - real pain, and I got marked up more than once. There's metal up there in the way. They don't want it to be easy to reach. It's tucked up there on purpose. The extensions connect to the gateway and stay there all the time. Then the cables plug into the extensions. Consider the extension to be like an extension cord. The outlet is behind the couch so you use an extension cord so you don't have to keep moving furniture to plug into the outlet - just plug into the extension cord. That's all these are, is extensions to make access easier - no other function. If you don't want to use any of the live functions, do you need the extension cable?
Is that vgate obdII reader good enough?

* Extension cables make installing the security bypass cable tons easier - a LOT easier, because they extend the security gateway plugs down for easier reach. It's not necessary - but it makes plugging the bypass cable in much faster.
* Security bypass cable is necessary to make changes to tire size, gear ratio, or make any CHANGES at all to anything. So if you want to change tire size, the bypass cable is an absolute must.
* The VGATE OBD interface, and that's what these are, interface between your phone and the truck's systems, works fine for tire size, gear ratios and so on. For most functions it's fine.
You don't need the extension cable, but you'll want the extension cable. Your hands will thank you. Lol. I use the vgate and it works with no issues. If you don't want to use any of the live functions, do you need the extension cable?

When using the extension but not Jscan, where does the ends go that plug into the SGW cable when not in use? Do they go anywhere or just leave unplugged on one end? This is the adapter I have - I bought a cheaper one earlier but then opted for this to negate any speed issues

The extension cable just moves the ports on the Security Gateway down below the dash so they are easy to reach. The cables unplug from the Security Gateway and connect to the adapter cable that then connects to the OBD dongle that Jscan talks to. When you are done, the cables plug back into the Security Gateway. If they are not plugged back in, some things (Off Road Pages, for example) don't work. The extension cable saves the skin on your hands everytime you want to use Jscan. When using the extension but not Jscan, where does the ends go that plug into the SGW cable when not in use?
