After electrical issues and they found low oil pressure and contaminated oil the dealership says they think jeep will do a buy back.
I love the 3.0 engine and I don't think it's a bad engine at all.
I don't think they should have issues like this with technology.
I have decided if they do a buyback I will go with 3.6 gas engine.
I be am not gun shy about the 3.0 but it seems too much odd stuff going on and the network with parts is limited.

There's known electrical issues with the diesel - connector issues as I recall/wiring issues.

Low oil pressure? Now we're getting into some more serious territory.

All sorts of odd issues, I was thinking today one of my tractors is a 61 model Perkins diesel and it's still going, .modern diesel engines should not have these issues!
It's very aggravating

on the contrary: only modern diesel engines have these issues.

EPA has hamstrung them, both from a performance standpoint, and a simplicity/reliability standpoint.

There is a reason pre-emission diesel pickups are selling for almost what they cost new. People who use them know they can keep them running forever.

And the ones that modify modern diesles to actually work are being slapped with fines and lawsuits.

If emissions is the problem causing all these issues then you waste more resources vs pre emission!
Evs are not the solution and worse!
I have had pre emission and emissions oil burners and never had issues before.
This includes Cummins, power stroke and Duramax.

The only issues I know people having with them is the ones pulling 35k all the time.

I don't think the eco diesel is a bad engine and I am not sour on it. I know it was based on a Marine application.

Modern diesels are an entirely new ball game though…. Mechanical pumps produced peanuts for injector pressures (just one example…) ~25,000 psi for high pressure fuel pumps…..

But, this is also why small diesels make 400+ ft lbs of tq now. (One of the factors…. Transmissions are kind of a game changer now too…)

Good luck with your 3.6 :) I think you will in turn miss the fuel economy and torque of the 3.0.

What do those rookie numbers mean in any reliability context?

The Gen 3 EcoDiesel hasn't been around long enough (unless there's high mileage fleet vehicles somewhere hiding data) to have a good idea but the preliminaries and previous generations' run aren't looking too promising.

I'd put a small 2 stroke Screaming Jimmy in mine in a heartbeat if I could. That would be a hoot rowing through the gears.

I love diesels but don't love having to keep additives on-hand constantly, and don't love downtime & dealing with Joe Service-manager.

I may be wrong, I don't own one of these, haven't worked on one. My diesels came from IH, Case, etc. and were heavy iron.
But it seems to me, and correct me if wrong, that the majority of issues with THIS diesel - this 3.0 - come from the fuel pump issue, which is not an engine issue or a Jeep issue, but a Bosch issue, and even how the pump is being used type of issue.
Yeah, emissions, DEF and so on come into this, but............ if you ignore the EPA's part in this, take the other stuff all by itself, is it even close to correct to suggest that if you ignore the EPA mandates, don't factor in the DEF and EGR and so on, as far as the engine is concerned, it's mostly related to the pump, and how the pump??
Just wondering....

My 1996 Peterbilt 379 with a Cummins has 800k miles on it and is all original. Zero issues.

My 2022 EcoDiesel blew the pump and took the fuel system with it at 9500 miles. FCA bought it back and I picked up a 2023 gasser. The MPG has dropped but I didn’t buy either for the economy.

Modern diesel engines are absolutely hamstrung by EPA mandates.
