New jeep acts like a blown front tire but not

2 week old jeep and i'm on my way to work this morning and all of sudden the jeep starts acting like a front tire blew out. steering wheel shaking back and forth.
I pull over and nothing is wrong with the tires. Trying to get it looked at somewhere, but anything come to mind ?
After turning the jeep off i was able to get to work and return home without any further issues.

Sounds like Death Wobble. You more than likely have a front suspension part that is loose......tierod end, trackbar endlink, etc.

There are so many things to consider and so many failure modes in them, I would recommend that you take it to a dealership or independent shop if you are unfamiliar with suspensions and suspect there being a problem. Or find someone who does know about suspension components locally who can get hands-on with the truck.

The problem here quickly becomes that we can only help based on the information provided, and if you are unfamiliar with the information, it's likely to be bad or incomplete.

Two weeks old I'd make an appointment with your dealer. Don't take it to an independent shop or crawl underneath. Take it in and make sure your complaint is noted on the repair order. Keep all your records.

ReplyIt's stock for sure. i did check a lot of the bolts underneath and nothing jumps out at me that is loose.

Have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth - if there is a dead spot, you can follow the moving parts, until you run into something that isn’t moving ( and should be ).

if there are no dead spots in the steering ( and no soft spots ), then it’s time to check each front corner’s suspension in isolation ( looking for something that has play in it, that shouldn’t ). There are some vids on u-tube that demonstrate how to do these checks with little more than a floor jack ( or the one that’s in the vehicle).

as a non mechanic, if you can isolate the problem on your own, it will help with communicating with someone that can fix it. If you can safely replicate the issue, that works too. Maybe it happens at a certain speed range, or a turn to the left ( or right ), or a certain scenario.

troubleshooting the issue is going to be the biggest thing (visibility/replication help a lot ), then you can find someone to fix it ( or replace the parts ).

One good thing about CarMax is that they will kick it to a Jeep dealership and pay for it if they cannot figure it out.

I'll assume stock tires and stock wheels.
The list above leaves out that it could be a tire, or even a wheel issue.
You can't check bolts without having the torque specs and taking a wrench to them.
