I started with a used Sport, bought because it was a bit cheaper than a new Sport off the lot, came with a 2 inch lift, 35's with aftermarket rims, and a aftermarket front bumper and winch. Figured I'd save the 12k difference over a stock Rubicon and have a truck that was already "Done".

Then I started going 4 wheeling much more often than I thought I would, and keep building up the truck. "Just need to add this one thing, and the truck will be perfect!"

That was $12,000 and 3 years ago, now I have lockers scheduled to be installed in April anyways :CWL:.

I ended up spending Rubicon money anyway, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it. While I love how it turned out and how ridiculously capable it is, I will admit I'm pretty much stuck with it.

A 55k Rubicon has much better trade in value than my 42k Sport with 12k in mods. So if you're going to spend the money anyways, you may want to consider a higher trim like the Rubicon if trade in value is important to you.

Not a popular opinion around here, but I say "buy what you'll use". If the truck is currently doing all the things you want then flipping it for more debt is just gonna leave you with a more expensive toy. . .and more debt lol.
I'd agree if we were talking about Subaru Outbacks and the difference of whether to spring for the "wilderness" trim level or stick to something a little less expensive. It's an Outback, and it's got a finite amount of capability regardless of how much you like to go out on dirt roads.

The dilemma with Gladiators is that a driver can easily get to a point where they can outperform the hardware in a non-Rubicon, and getting a Gladiator to Rubicon capability is always cheaper if you do it from the factory (as opposed to Jeeps of yester-generation, which were regularly a wash if not cheaper on the DIY side).

it's impossible to know if you are going to be a mall-crawler or a "lets get the dogs in the back and head to Utah" type until you get in the thing and start going. I personally find it addictive, so I traded up for a Rubicon because I got stuck with open diffs and bottomed out one too many times after a dozen visits to Windrock and having to put too much effort into determining which trails were "easy enough" for my Gladiator Sport.

I'm taking a spare set of Mojave Fox 2.5 shocks and installing them on my '19 JLUR that has a Mopar 2" lift on it

I have a 23 gladiator overland. It’s my first jeep. Always liked them but thought the price was too high. Well I noticed an offer for a 61 k overland for 45 k. I’m a fan of a good deal. Figured for the price. Why not. I bought it. Well to my surprise. It must have brought out the kid still In me. Well I love this thing way more than imagined I would. Well now I am
Thinking the way I use it. I should have got a Mojave. I assumed I would like the luxury feature more of the overland but now the Mojave is calling my name. Not sure if I’m going to act on it yet. But either way I’m enjoying this truck. Did some light trails and once again. Didn’t think I would but I’m all in now. Oh well maybe I’ll catch a desperate dealer that wants to give me an incredible trade deal. I have put 8 k miles on it in 3 months. I can only say. A truck comes in handy more than you may imagine
One, I believe you first have the wide Axles for some reason on that package. You can buy the fox or other systems in terms of shocks. You can do what you want on the suspension. You can even put a rear locker on the back. Heck, if you want, you can buy after market seats. You then can paint mojave on the hood and you essentially have one. That is going to be a lot less expensive because you are going to eat it in the shorts on the trade in...

Meh, agree to disagree. Since literally each model is able to complete the rubicon trail you're really getting into diminishing returns with the capability differences between models. (Not saying they don't exist, just that when everyone starts at 95% the difference from 95 - 100 just doesn't seem that big)

Do some options make things easier? Sure. Can I also go disconnect my sway bars with a ratchet and 5 spare minutes of forethought? absolutely.

I'm glad you're happy with your truck, that's what matters at the end of the day.

The MSRP on Rubicon and Mojave are exactly the same. Options are where you will see price difference.
I don't dispute this. I had a limited selection, and the Rubicon had a deeper dealer discount.

Same here - Purchased my 2020 Overland new. I've kept it pretty much stock and it's a comfortable highway vehicle, still averaging 21 hwy after the 78k I've put on it in 3.5 years. If the Mojave is still available with the now reportedly fixed manual transmission when i pay this one off and jump back in the pool, I might go for it.

I think it’s pretty simple, it all comes down to cost, if it’s 10k or more than no, if it’s 4 to 5k maybe….. I got a 22 rubicon paid about 60k deals today are much better, but I got what I wanted, sometimes the grass looks greener but that’s just because it’s not your grass, your truck is capable of you start getting stuck then maybe you have an issue but don’t get sucked into different is better, because you know your new one will be the girl in the corner one day.

Once you get the Mojave disease, you are done. You can fight it, try to reason with it, but "resistance is futile, you will be assimilated."
If you remain hung up on having a front locker, you can add an electronic or air locker later a lot cheaper than trying to make a Mojave clone out of another trim level. If you are going to air-down the tires anyway, an air compressor will be in your future. If you are a die-hard rock climber, you really belong in a 2-door Wrangler Rubicon anyway.

It is a nice ride. Switched places with a friend and drove his Mojave and he drove mine. Would have gotten one, but we bought ours before they were announced.

lol. That’s exactly why I don’t mod anymore. Lost my shirt too many times selling or trying to sell tons of accessories later is a pain.
