They can still afford it, longer term loans are becoming the norm now, and the auto industry is eating it up. 10 year car loans will become more common, and people won't care as long as the monthly payment is right.
Dumbest move ever.
Boat loans are 20 years.

Funny thing is jeep base model used to be the cheapest 4wd out there, in ‘87 a yj cost $8900, in ‘95 my rio grande yj was cheaper than a geo tracker or a Toyota truck when equipped with 4wd. a Jeep could be an entry car for a younger person, without breaking the bank and interest rates were higher then.

The corporations trying to get consumers into subscription base models rather than ownership base. They've been doing that with software. I now I am seeing it in the dental fields with cbct and intra oral scanners. I also see a lot of younger people doing this with mobile deflvices. They are just basically renting the device until a new comes out and there current one back. Disney has payment plans for their annual passes. It's a fortune for a family of 4. And you just renew it every year.

That was the good old days when Jeeps were less complicated and interior features were sparse. Metal dash, simple seats, etc...
Loved every minute of driving my CJs and YJs. They could not comfortably go down the road at 70mph, but they could still bust a trail

That's because a wake shaping boat is $200k+ now. And I see a lot of them on the lake. Most those guys have a $100k camper to go along with it. Mortgage loans for toys ?

Lmao Oregon known for hippies and going green and woke. Tag fee $316 and $115 yearly road fee.
I'm pretty sure there's a tag fee here too. Road Fee is the same thing as the lost gas tax here. Generally states use that tax money for road improvements but it's hard to justify the numbers they come up with. I promise the state does not make $200 a year in gas tax from me or anyone else in my household. Combined!

I wish they would base it off mileage. My state calculates it off something like 12k miles a year at the average mpg rate. I drive maybe 2k miles a year.

In California, the road taxes are use to pay union wages to government workers before they are used for fixing the road.

Agreed, but the root cause isn't corporations all happening to get that same idea at the same time. They're getting that direction from a common source.

Well hell my JT is not that far removed. Very few bells and whistles, sparse interior features, simple seats but they still charged a crap load of money for it (LOL)

Don't think this is a new trend...

I went to the Jeep dealer in 1994 to buy a Wrangler (I was 24 and fresh out of the Navy) and just couldn't afford it. If my memory serves me correctly it was north of $20k for the Renegade 4.0 model I wanted.

Ended up buying a Nissan 4x4 king cab pick-up for $13k. ?‍♂

The problem is that the prices have gone up so much in just the last 3 years. I bought my Gladiator Sports S in July of 2020 for $36,000. My same exact truck Sport S with Auto Transmission, Tow Package, Cold Weather Package, Hard Top, Technology Package and Convivence Package (Previously known as the Popular Equipment Package) costs $52,390. A 16,390 jump in price over 3 yeas is insane. Jeep has definitely outpriced a lot of people, and they want to know why sales are down. For $52,000 I can get a full sized Ram with more options. The pure off roaders will buy older Jeeps and build them how they want for the same amount of money rather than buying new and only doing a few mods. For the first time in forever Jeep is offering incentives on Wranglers. This will hurt our resale values. One of the reasons why a Wrangler held it's value is because there were never incentives putting cheaper Jeeps on the road. I just don't get Jeeps strategy. And they're going to go way up again after they settle the strike with the UAW. Looks like I will have my Gladiator forever because I cannot afford to replace it.

Do you mean 2004? Rubicons didn't exist in 1994. They came out in '04 with a price of around $25k...
