These states have laws that ban the use of steering wheel knobs because they are considered dangerous.

As I understand they have caused fatal accidents; snagging on shirts, jackets, etc.

I have one on my 1970 CJ5. For old school manual steering it comes in handy.

I've never understood the need for one. Handy to have on an old tractor. . .but those have a steering wheel the approximate diameter of a satellite dish.

My manual steering CJ5 has a large steering wheel, and wouldn't you know it, the knob is a John Deere. You nailed it.

My understanding of all 50 state laws is that they are perfectly legal as long as you are wearing black fingerless gloves and secure your wallet to your pants with a chain.

@Bakerboy We used to use them on non-power steering hot rods and customs. Never thought of it for off road, might be nice. I would have the same concerns as you with the larger diameter steering wheel. I would be tempted to stop by some chrome/truck shops to see what they have. You would learn about their diameter and quality that way.
The ones we used were from the 50's and we picked by picture.

tangent- we won 'Best Shift Knob' at a Rumbler's car show 20-something years ago with an acrylic eyeball. I later destroyed it ripping second gear. That link you provided brought back memories.
