Looking for ideas for a gun rack. I've seen the tactical ones and they just don't seem practical for the everyday shotgun, rifle and fishing rod.

Extreme terrain offers a metal roof molle system that can accommodate long guns with a strap.
They also have a gun rack system that mounts in the top as a slide lock system and holds 1-2 long guns with built in holders that are padded.

This was my solution. It was expensive, but it’s “secure” and discrete. It will hold a single rifle or shotgun. I’m not sure about tactical or not. To me “tactical” is a marketing term or aesthetic to suck in the LARPers. The important thing is that this locks and it’s not obvious. I would never put a gun somewhere where people can see it. If I’m transporting multiple guns, or on range day, they go “secured” in the bed in their cases on my slide out.

There’s no way I can fit any of my fishing rods in the truck. Mine ride on the bed rack in a Rhino Rack mount bolted to a ROAM box. That tan box is visible in the picture above. My saltwater stuff is too long and my freshwater stuff is all 1 piece rods. I don’t think old school gun racks will fit behind the rear headrests, but maybe I’m wrong. I’m not a fan of guns over head or vertically stored like a cop car. Again, too visible, projectiles in a crash, etc.

If you need to carry long guns in your rig, you're in the wrong platform. Toyota is the preferred choice.

I haven't seen anything on the market that's elegant enough for my discerning taste. ;)

I like the idea of a roof-mounted rack as most people won't notice it. Especially if you make the inside black. Most thieves look at the seats to see if anything valuable was left.

Under the seat is a good storage spot. Not always quick access. If we're camping, there's a bunch of s**t on the back seat that has to move.

Take a look at my solution above. I added a shroud so even with the doors open you can’t see it. Passengers feet still fit in the rear footwells along with stuff with the rifle there. My dog usually gets the whole back seat in a hammock along with some bags if I’m camping but I don’t need to lift up the seats. I can unlock it electronically from the front seats, and reach the gun from either side of the rear or from the front seats even with gear in the truck.

What was used to make this?
The @813 Fabrication & Design basket’s molle squares fit Grey Man Tactical’s baking plates. I added some plastic to cover adjacent holes making it impossible to get a tool into the basket to unscrew the butt cup and Santa Cruz lock. The seats lock to the basket, so you’d have to use serious tools to destroy the seat and/or basket. The wiring for the lock is run under the ArmorLite flooring. The electronic release is in the center console where it too can be locked. The key hole (not a handcuff key) to manually open the lock faces down. It’s accessible but would be really difficult to pick upside down and blind. The truck is wide enough for an AR with a can on it. I’m not sure about really long guns, like a sporting clays shotgun.
