Much easier to read on the mobile version.
Not bad on a computer screen, although if one wants to pick nits (which I won't do - he's had enough trouble) a couple of breaks with some space might have helped. I'm talking me personally as the vestibular headaches and bad meniere's are making reading not as easy as it once was.

I got enough out of it to see what was going on (I did pass Survey of American Literature in HS without reading any of the books cover to cover)

Sad sad sad that one doesn't have to think hard at all to say, hey - there's a dozen other posts/threads on this exact same sort of thing. Even someone with a bad memory should see this as déjà vu all over again.

Glad you got it back! How are the key fobs so easy to program. Is there a way to make them more secure?

The electronics today are so easily compromised with all the technology out there. The only way to try and prevent the theft is creating layers of security device headaches for them to have to deal with .. the more obstacles in their way they may want to try taking someone else's vehicle. I figure by the time they cut through 4 locks on 4 different devices plus the alarm system notifying me real time and sending video to the cloud and also sending it to my phone and email... I will already be calling 911 and requesting an Ambulance .. ooops sorry .. I meant to say Requesting the Police.

Man what a great story - I mean, not the whole situation but the fact you were able to find it and get it back quick enough.

I'm curious, what kind of place was it sitting at where you saw it? Was it a transfer station of some sort or near a port? Do you think they just grabbed and ran or were they intending to come back to do more damage and sell it?

It amazes me this has become such a big problem - well not that it's a problem but that nobody is really doing anything about it.
It was just SW of Miami Airport South of the 836 Expwy. It ended up parked behind a 2-story low-income apartment complex in the rear of the building parked in line with other vehicles that belonged to tenants there... ir was just South or the 836 EXPWY 2 Exits East of where it was taken from. I really think they did not expect it to be found this fast. I believe that they took what they could carry from inside and were going to come back to either joy ride ??. or part it out ?? .. but whatever their intentions were I foiled any of their future plans.

The yellow star was where it was stolen from

Curious if you had passive entry (unlock) enabled? From what I understand, the key fob scanner they use can get the code simply by "listening" for the passive door lock response of this function. Also was your vehicle automatic transmission?

I'm trying to, non-scientifically, determine demographics of stolen Jeeps. Also, I'm retired LE as well, and am the kind of person who will probably go to prison if I catch someone trying to steal my vehicle. *shrugs*
No, I need to click the fob to gain entry or lock it .. it does not automatically open when I approach the vehicle. I do not have that feature . Its all stock on the Mojave.

When I had my 8.4 radio replaced, it still had the previous owners xm subscription and I was unable to put my subscription on it. It took a a couple of days to get it straightened out. I just wonder if you could report your radio stolen to Sirius XM.

I was going to ask the OP - but you seem to know as well and he's had a rough time as it is (hard to even imagine)

Samsung - does that mean they work only with Samsung phones?

My concern, being in a rural area, is that there are so very few of any one type of device around. Go to a rural area, there might be 10 people and only 2 apple devices - and well out of range of even enhanced BT. Same for Samsung - if it requires a Samsung device - then it ain't gonna work around here as we don't have any Samsung devices (aside from my wife's Flip 4 and half the time she's got to ask me "why isn't my music coming from that speaker")

Bluetooth requires you be within a certain distance.

My concern, I guess, is that not only would such things only work in urban areas, they would only work where there is a population of that brand of device.

I do have an app on my Pixel that will detect airtags because of concern of those who STILL use the airtags for nefarious purposes. I want to know if there's any in our area.

Yes the SAMSUNG SMART TAGS only work when they come into vicinity of other SAMSUNG Phones or Tablets or any SAMSUNG BLUETOOTH Device that has their Location Enabled, then the signal / location updates on the map / app... When they took my jeep, it was early in the morning and not many cars or people were on the road hence the reason it only alerted 1 time while they were driving .. and Numerous times once parked at the recovery spot. Since it was behind a residential building and parking lots on both sides of the fence and people were starting to come out of their homes at that time to go to work and I was getting numerous updates at the same spot where it was parked every few minutes.

Well I will just call Sirius once the replacement is in and transfer the Radio ID # over to the new one.

You would think Sirius could find out who received stolen property when they attempt to register. I'm sure there is some privacy issues, but they gave me the name of who my new radio belonged to.

Yeah, the Samsung tags only ping and work off Samsung phones. The more rural less population dense you are, the less efficient they are to pick up and ping location. Still even then, it just needs one person with a late model Samsung phone to receive it and ping location. They are not perfect devices but I think they are value added in a layered defense of asset protection.

I found a web site that reviewed Apple, Samsung and Tile and found you not only need a Samsung phone, but one with the correct capabilities to take full advantage. So that leaves us out for the big two, and Tile isn't even close in their network.

Your last sentence - that's a good summary, well-worded.

Interesting bit about the UWB used by Apple and Samsung - it's not easy to block the signal by metal objects. I read where someone found, other than using a jammer, that it wasn't easy to block the signal UNLESS it was in a folded hand or like under your arm, the fold of your arm or whatever. Ironically, they said the human body was the best physical blocker.

Unless you are running a burner grade Samsung phone model, any mid to higher tier Samsung phone built within the last 3-4 years should work. I run a Samsung S20+ model that is going on 3 years old and it does everything fine with the Smart Tags.

Just checked on a couple of review sites and the Flip 4 doesn't have the UWB capabilities, so not all Samsung phones do, something to watch for.

Unless we get a higher end phone just for this, these are out.

The thief might not even live where the Jeep was found. The could have just stole what they wanted and dropped the Jeep off to see if it was going to be found quickly or just dropping it off for someone else to pick it up later

My dad was in the car business in Vero Beach and Fort Lauderdale for many years and said most of the cars get shipped off to other destinations or just used for joyriding. We lived in a really nice neighborhood on the Biscayne Bay and the neighborhood was always having break ins and thefts even with three guard gates

Sad part is that even if they took fingerprints, unless they are somehow in some system, maybe a job that demands is, or in some law enforcement database or whatever, they may not show up.
Dang!
