Sales across the whole industry are up though. People are just realizing trucks aren't worth $70k.
On full-sized trucks, yes they are. Ram is the only one down year over year on full-sized trucks.

But mid-sized trucks are down across the entire board except for the Ridgeline. For GM, Ford, and Toyota you might be able to blame that on the new gen around the corner. Also, I think Ford gave up a ton of Ranger production to the Bronco and the Maverick has been a huge success, outselling the Ranger almost 3:1. For anyone not towing or offroading much(virtually everyone), the Maverick is a better truck than the Ranger.

Maybe the issue is that people are realizing they dont really need a body on frame mid-size truck with a tiny bed and mediocre towing capability

Title says it all. Wrangler sales also down (12% 4Q, 14% overall in 2023). Not sure if declines are result of absurdly high MSRPs, new competition from Bronco, UAW strike, or other reasons. Stellantis overall reports a 1% sales decline while most other manufacturers are reporting sales gains in North America in 2023. Ford has yet to report.

2022 Gladiator Rubicon
Even though the tow rating on the Gladiator is competitive, the Pentastar is not going to hold a candle to how the Colorado or Ranger 2.7L tow. The Colorado 2.7 is making 348 ft-lbs at 1500 rpm, 391 ft-lbs at 2000 rpm, and 430 ft-lbs at 3000 rpm. Thats more torque than my 2014 F150 3.5L Ecoboost.

The Ranger 2.7 is not to far off of that.

I'm less excited about the Tacoma's 2.4L as its not able to put out numbers anywhere near the Ford or GM 2.7L and you can't really count the electric power toward towing with the iforce max. But still, even the 2.4L should have a decent advantage over the Pentastar.

The battery is like 1.7 kwh. For the electric motor to provide constant torque/power to drive the truck and trailer, you would end up draining that battery in a matter of minutes.

Basically, while towing, you can figure that the truck only has the power of the gasoline engine only because the electric motor will only step in to provide short bursts here and there. If you are towing down the freeway at 65mph under constant high load, the battery just can't supply continuous power for any meaningful amount of time.

When TFLTruck tested the Tundra with the iForce Max, which uses the exact same battery and electric motor as the Tacoma, the electric motor completely shut off above 50mph. They climbed up I-70 for 8 minutes with zero assist from the electric motor aside from the initial acceleration to 50 mph.

It weighs a good 500-600 lbs more which probably hurts the payload. At least in the Tundra, the same exact system adds that much.
You make some good points, but again I’m not towing with a midsize truck that heavy anyways, even if they are “rated” for it. There are plenty of ppl who tow on this forum that have never had an issue or complained about their Gladiator when towing. If you need to tow 7000lbs on a regular basis I’m getting a full size. I personally don’t need more power and torque. Sure would it put a smile on my face yes, but that doesn’t bother me. Those other trucks can’t take their top and doors off and some of the trails I’ve been on.

Jeep keeping or stopping the Gladiator will have no bearing on me keeping or selling it. There are lots of great vehicles that are not selling right now.
