The Motobilt vents have drip trays to stop water from going right in, the heat from the engine keeps it pretty dry.
But my question I suppose is, where do they route to? If the tray is there and fully enclosed so water can’t get in, can air and heat escape? I guess having my hands on a set would answer the question.

This is indeed a great question. I have it on my list of things to do in order to help with the heat issues.... but it'll be later this summer. I presume there has to be some type of venting so its supposed to help with heat dispersion, just not quite sure how they route the water drain.

I have a set of Poison Spyder louvers rather than the motobilt one. Water drips right into the engine bay when it rains. But stopped at a light you can see the heat getting pushed out from the fans. Lets off enough heat when I had 3 inches of snow on my car that the vents had no snow.

No actual difference in engine temps though but at least it's functional.

Interesting, didn't know PS made louvers. I had a 2015 Wrangler with the 3.6, and one of the biggest things I noticed that helped for heat distribution is vented fender liners. The amount of heat that came out of those fender liners after I swapped to vented ones was insane.

Had the S&B vents only on my 2020 Rubicon and really was no appreciable difference at least in engine temps noticed. Cutting the under hood blanket for them has to be done carefully or it will look like ass and I would recommend some fabric tape to cover the cut edges. In heavy rain if you do not put on beforehand the provided covers, it sucks in water into the engine bay.

Felt no urge to get them again with my 2022 Rubicon.

The tray is below the vents so there is a gap for the heat to escape. The trays are there to divert the water and not store it. At each corner where the two sides fold up and meet is where the water can drain out of.
The attached photo is on a ON rubicon hood but shows how it works.

Interesting, not sure how I feel about that, looks like it would drain right into the engine cover and all over the alternator, at least on a diesel if I’m recalling correctly.

Not quite sure if this is really a big deal, I'm obviously no expert on that. Engines are designed to get a little bit wet... when you're driving on the highway in rain, etc its going to get soaked. Would be interested in hearing from someone who knows a bit more about the potential issues with that.

No issues on our diesel. Alumibob and yes your engine gets wet just driving in the rain as well. Also I checked and it’s just to the side of the alternator but if you were still concerned then just seal up that one corner with some silicone so it would force it to drain out the other side.

Agreed, it’s why you can wash your engine bay with little concern, Alternators can get wet even, but I’ve always been told to not spray it directly. Curious how the water would flow and if it would be to the point where it was a steady stream right onto the only sensitive bit to water. If you are moving not a big deal, but if you are parked in a down pour, maybe not so good.

@RockJeep98, curious if you find these collecting leaves and stuff too?

I actually like these a lot and wouldn’t mind testing them out.

I haven’t noticed any collection issues on the diesel or my gas JT. I think the silicone in that one corner would easily eliminate any concerns you may have

No CAI is going to give you and real power increase. The S&B with hood scoop has been proven, via dyno, to reduce power.
sorry didn’t mean gains like over the stock hp but hp back from saying a heavier build or added stress.

You can pressure wash your engine bay and not hurt it, but you can also ruin everything lol... it's an art. "Water tight" connections aren't exactly that. Even the best water mitigation intake tubes can have water shoved down their throats.

Open hood vents would vent a lot of heat, and let in water, which shouldn't hurt while driving, but if say, youre parked in a downpour and the Jeep sits, standing water in some spots around your engine bay wouldn't be great.

Those drip tray water catches basically allow heat to go around and out, but water is caught and diverted to a better drainage area...
