I am wanting to upgrade all my speakers and sub. I currently have the Premium Alpine system but I want a little more. Can I upgrade everything g and still keep my stock head unit? I have the 8.4 with navigation and really don't want to replace the head unit.

Stock head unit, 100% as far as I know. What is your concern with the sound system specifically? Upgrading just the speakers and doing a bit of EQ work will make it sound significantly better that you may not even want to do the sub.

Though this 100% depends on the sound stage you're looking for. If you want that glass rattling bass, then yeah the 8" under the seat isn't going to cut it for you.

Looking for better sound and maybe a little more thump but not trying to knock my teeth out. The wife likes take the doors off so I would like a better sound for driving the interstate with the doors off and top off.

I don't think you need to upgrade the sub, upgrading just the speakers and poly-filling the sound bar significantly improves the sound stage in my opinion. Start with replacing your dash / sound bar speakers (You can replace the lower dash ones if you want, but most people just leave them). I did this upgrade, cost me about $250 CAD and the sound is insanely better. I have no interest in upgrading anymore.

The Kenwood KFC-X3Cs are pretty popular for replacements, though tons of companies obviously make them, so use whatever your preference. I recommend ordering from Crutchfield though, get the harnesses required at the same time.

EDIT: There has been a newer company around that I've been hearing a lot about, Terra Acoustics. Looks like a few people on this forum have purchased them and liked them a lot.

i have the 8.4 alpine system....i upgraded the front dash and rollbar speakers and it sounded better. I recently added Foxbox with a 10 inch sub for some extra bass. To keep the OEM headunit and upgrade the amp, (speakers and add a sub) you can use a PAC (i believe CH-41 R2) or use another type of processor.... there was a thread on a JL wrangler forum explaining some of this. I just cant find the thread at this time.

Add an amp if you replace the speakers. It will really wake up the mids and highs if send some good power to them. You'll have no problem hearing it cruising down the highway with the doors off.

Ryan, total sidebar but what color is your Gladiator? I just saw that color going down the road the other day and I don't think I have seen it before? Beautiful!

I must be getting really old. I would rather listen to the noise of the tires going down the highway than I would a stereo. However, with the tires I have there is not much choice.

I have two Rubicons with the Alpine system. On both vehicles, the front speakers rattled straight off the show room floor. For a good test, I recommend ZZ Top’s My Head’s in Mississippi and Fleetwood Mac’s World Turning which will over stress just about any speakers. The point is to locate the limit.
Now, any specific drop-in replacement recommendations?

Thanks

Lance

I prefer Dark Side of the Moon for testing speakers. Time and Money specifically

Has anyone installed Memphis Audio speakers? By comparison online, they sound the best to me but that’s not real world. I would like to hear from someone who has them installed.

JBL club 3020 for the dash 3.5s. They are 3 ohm which helps to get the most power out of the factory amp. For the sound bar I'd step up to the metra 6.5" pods and a component speaker so that you can still use all 4 channels. To simplify things in just going to order the kicker plug and play kit from trail seven for my JTM but I can't comment yet as I haven't pulled the trigger. I don't want to tear the lower dash apart to mess with those speakers just yet.
