Noticed this washing up underneath today notice any idea what’s up apart from rust? Drivers side front axle just under 20,000 miles.

Have you been off road? Looks like you've taken some hits and cracked the coating and the steel is rusting.

Haven’t done any extreme off-road and mostly through grass Fields and stuff what’s interesting is. It’s on the back of the axle. It looks like it’s bubbling and peeling off.

the straight circular line going around the circumference of the axle with a small chip is the front. I thought that was interesting because the line is perfectly straight.

A lot of the big spots just looks like rust jacking that got under the paint and probably started out early on as a way smaller nick from road rash.

Considering your location, and mileage, I really do not think that is out of line. Could give it a couple passes with rust converter primer followed with a few coats of Rustoleum or just fluid film it.

Thanks! That’s the plan! I thought the straight line of damage looked like an odd pattern and thought I’d ask first.

Line looks like it runs the groove of a weld and probably was just an adhesion issue from day one.

Minor scrapes that invited rust in. Salt too. Clean it, scrape it, and shoot some Rustoleum undercoat on it.
