I just purchased a 2020 Launch Edition Gladiator with less than 30k miles from a dealership about three hours away. It has a few modifications; Warn winch, KC lights, and a PrimusIQ break controller. When I purchased the vehicle, I did not notice anything wrong with the fob until I got come as the vehicle would lock, but the alarm would go off randomly. The other fob does not lock or unlock the vehicle, but will allow me to start it with no issues. As I have looked at all of the wiring, it seems to be non-invasive and done correctly to the vehicle, so my assumption was the fobs need to be reprogrammed. I took the vehicle to a local dealership that told me I needed a new wiring harness and the price was $1000 to correct. I feel like I may have led them down this path with the break controller install, but the plug into the Jeep is a factory option that has not disrupted the integrity of the factory harness from what I see and have researched. Should this just be a simple programming fix on the fobs or do I have larger issues?

Did the dealership explain why they think the wiring needs to be replaced and have any troubleshooting evidence to back up their claim? Sounds a bit fishy to me if the brake controller just plugged into the factory connector socket. As an experiment, you may try unplugging the brake controller to see if that changes any of your issues.

Given the age of the vehicle, it may be time for some new fob batteries. Another thing to consider would be to pull up the alarm trigger information to see what is causing it to go off.

Thanks Dylan. I will check this out. The dealership was very vague it the response, but was certain it was going to be at least $1k to fix. They told me they had to take out the dash to inspect, but the vehicle was only in the shop for 30 minutes. I dropped it off, but was watching to see how long it was in the bay. I saw no signs of my dash being taken out to inspect the issue. Stealerships rule!

I assume what you mean when you say noninvasive wiring you’re indicating there is no type of aftermarket system that utilizes current key fob for operation? The only reason I can imagine why dealership would recommend a new wire harness if somebody has gone in and hacked an aftermarket system into your harness that utilizes your factory remotes and it would be at your best interest to go under there and remove yourself if you feel comfortable doing so all the tie in’s ........ problem comes in with the dealer if they see aftermarket systems installed they can recommend removal or wire harness replacement to return back to factory for further diag. More money for the dealership to replace the harness and likely you won’t return and if you do they’ll have their cushion to fix your issue at $1K.....

Well, this didn't work. I did notice a tag on each of my doors that shows a tracker using the DNA Trace System. I would imagine this is an aftermarket add on that may be part of the issue since it is alarm/door related. Does anyone have any experience with this product and specifically, any issues?

I am pretty sure that is just a vehicle etching systems for body panel parts and not a wired in system.

Does not rule out some other goober dealer add on though that may be wired in.

Tons of results - it's dealership applied, hidden marks to body panels and glass, and more......

If I have a question - I try to find answers and this was a simple one.

i have installed many car stereos and alarm systems over the years and I do not see anything that looks outside of the factory wiring. That is one reason I questioned The dealership to begin with.

As I have done some additional research, I have noticed my start/stop feature does not work and my fog lights stay on. Both are not impacted by the buttons on the dash that should turn them off and on. I think the gremlin just got larger. I have not been able to trace down any crazy wiring yet that would give me an indication that this is a reversible fix.
