I just did my oil change (I run Mobil 1 oil/filter)
and found a very small amount of metal in the filter… it’s not magnetic, and not on every plate but more than I would like to see…
2020 sport 3.6L with 60,424 miles
So I’m out of warranty but does anyone know what it could be? No noises and no power loss… jeeps runs and drives great, just keep running and put away money for a new engine or is this something I should talk to my dealer about?
The jeep was a rental vehicle before I bought it but wasn’t disclosed until after I purchased it.
I want to keep this for a long time as this is my dream truck… any help is greatly appreciated!!

On your next oil change, do an oil analysis with https://www.oaitesting.com. That will give you a better picture of what's going on with your engine.

So I assume it’s ok to keep driving? Like I said nothing out of the normal except for what I found… and if I didn’t look at the filter I would never have found this…
I actually have a black stone kit at home I was going to use for my last truck but sold it for my gladiator…

Is this your first oil change? Unless you hear any ticking noise your engine will run smoothly. Don't be so attached to an asset that can fail.

That filter looks great. It’s doing its job in keeping the tiny bits out. There is nothing there in the photos that alarm me and I’d welcome that filter if it was mine.

One more added protection for your engine is to get a magnetic drain plug (ideal) or put strong earth magnets on the outside of the drain plugs as a minimum.

My 21 JTR didn’t come with a magnetic drain plug for the engine so I had one made.

I bought the Jeep about a year and a half ago and have been doing oil changes every 3 months or for me about 2K miles as all of my driving to/from work is about 12 miles round trip… the coolant temp just gets up at the time I’m pulling into work.
I’d like to keep this truck for a long time and yes I do have OCD when it comes to something going wrong… lol

There is quite a bit of sludge in the pleats plus that tiny bit of metal… I change it every 3 months which is usually about 2K miles as my commute is only 12 miles round trip.
I will be looking into a magnetized drain plug and see if anything comes out on that…

Also I used an oil cleaner the last oil change (not this one) and even this oil change was dark like no light through it… I’m assuming that the rental company who owned this before me didn’t take the best care of it.
I’ve been running this Mobil 1 since I bought it just didn’t realize how dark the oil would still be. I assume it should get better with time??

Follow the recommended schedule. Changing oil that often is just wasting money.

7500mi or 6mo. Hell, my BMW with a much better engineered 6cyl is a 10,000mi interval.

Oil changes in new vehicles isn't as critical as vehicles in the past. I've significantly exceeded manufacturer's schedule on a few vehicles with zero negative effects. 12k-15k miles on vehicles that went went ~90k-140k miles before I got rid of them. While I won't throw anyone under the bus, I do know how many miles a manual transmission (of a German auto, not Jeep) will last on the original oil. It's 6 digits.

So do not think you changing oil on an abbreviated maintenance schedule will prolong the life of your vehicle. There are a 1,000 different things that can go wrong in a mass-produced engine, oil is the least likely.

Looks to me like the filter doing filter things.

What type of cleaner did you run and why? To me, they are just snake oil.

Not really seeing anything to worry about. Have the oil analysis done and go from there.
