2023 Sport S with 8,000 miles on it. Never abused. Hasn’t even been off-road yet. I have verified multiple times it’s full of oil. Never burned any that I’ve been able to notice.
I asked a very trusted and knowledgeable forum member in private about it and he gave his opinion but I feel I need a larger sample size before I take my truck in next week for its oil change. At that point I will ask about this noise.
Before conclusions are jumped to I’ve done a lot of internet detective work and test drove a 2020 model Rubicon listening for similar sounds to what I hear. I heard a similar noise in the rubicon.
So here is the explanation:
It’s a light to moderate hollow tapping/knocking noise that can be heard when standing in front of the grill with the hood closed. It is hard to hear at all from the side of vehicle.
It does NOT show up until the oil temperature is at least 165 degrees. At 185 it becomes obvious. If (while engine is warm) you turn the truck off and immediately turn it back on, for anywhere to 10-30 seconds you can’t really hear it. If you listen real close at about 30 seconds a “click-click” sound can be heard and then the noise shows up again. It will do this every time on my 2023. I didn’t notice that on the 2020. The noise was just there on the 2020. I did notice the noise in the 2020 was a bit fainter.
Blue truck is mine. Red is the 2020 Rubicon
Can someone please tell me if they hear this noise. lol.
#its easier to hear with headphones obviously.
