I left on a trip to mammoth ca from San Bernardino I- 15 up the pass to hwy 395 lots of up and down grades out of bishop a grade to 9,500 feet 4 and 5th gear 60mph no codes , but lacks power , not like before, Saturday morning up a pass 395 6th and 7 th gear about 63mph no codes when I got to the top however would not shift into 8th gear even after miles had to shift manually into 8th but any slight up hill back into 7th gear stayed that way until Sunday on the way home when I got back to bishop then it would shift to 8th gear worked fine from there. While in Mammoth after a little rain turned on wipers screen and radio screen went black never did that before . Never did that before, did it twice of course a few other problems that the dealer has done they just dont care, PS I dont believe their findings the teeth were wore off, the engine would not run very good my jeep ran better then than it does now it was getting 29 on the freeway now 25 on the way home mostly down hill and seems to lack power and now has a bad turbo lag, But the good news is no POOAF or cel no pulling over the side of the road to reset , so now try to figure out the new issues hope this helps thank you guys for helping and listing

I had a similar experience on -15 in that area. I lost power and it wouldn't shift; temps were all good despite a hot ambient temp. I ended up limping back to a filling station and put fuel in it (I was just below 1/4 of a tank) - after that it was fine. No codes, no warnings at any point.

The best I can figure is the low pressure fuel pump in the tank was getting hot and submerging it in fuel cooled it off and provided adequate pressure.

@my dog Trigger, do you remember what your oil temps were at that point? It sounds like your truck may have gone into a soft derate. Once oil temps are cooled, then normal driving characteristics are restored.

When we bought our Rubicon EcoDiesel in Prescott, AZ and drove it back home to New Mexico, I couldn't believe how hot the oil temps got in mountainous terrain. I think you could easily hit derate without towing in mountainous driving, especially if ambient temps are hot and the vehicle is loaded with gear.

To prevent going into overheat protection, the best thing you can do is lower your speed. You'll be surprised how much your oil temps will drop when you lower the speeds on those long steep grades. More fuel = more heat.

And sometimes, the constant hills are just as bad because the engine never gets a chance to cool. For example, driving through the Ozarks can really get my oil temps high and keeps them high, not because there are any long steep mountain passes, but because they are constant short climbs that go on for miles and miles.

240*F oil temp shouldn't be an issue, nor does that temperature reach overheat protection to trigger a derate. You have something else going on, I just don't know what it might be, especially since no codes were activated.

they just put in the turbo so I’m thinking something on the wiring or a plug every time they do something at lest 3 other things don’t work
