I was confused by this until I remembered not everyone lives in the ice and snow for half the year 😂
You don't need your tires perfectly matched in snow and ice though? Plenty of wheel slip ability.

Mountain roads are a mixed bag. To get to one of the ski resorts here it's 2 hours on a two lane highway at 55mph going between patches of dry, ice, and snow.

Matched tires or not I'm not leaving it in 4HI on dry pavement, especially on windy mountain roads. I'd rather drift the corners on the snowy sections that put that kind of binding on the transfer case chain.

A two lane road with corner speeds of 55mph isn't winding enough to bind anything, but winding enough to slide you into oncoming traffic.

Very well could be wear damage from an improper alignment and the wheels placed in the rear after the repair.
Occum's razor comes to mind. We could make all kinds of hypothetical situations that would leave you with 2 worn out rear tires, but what happens if you don't ever rotate your tires? The drive tires get worn out long before the steer tires. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Maybe we will be enlightened one day with a response from the OP.

He was on at 8:18 this morning and this is his only post ever. I'm guessing he got the answer he wanted and we won't hear from him again.

He has "retired" listed as occupation, so he may be outside yelling at clouds.
