I was mulling around LED bulb swap for awhile on my halogen equipped Gladiator. I decided to try the Sylvania Ultra has I had used them in the past in other vehicles and had decent results. I had done a 1 inch level kit some time ago and aimed headlights down but may have went too far. So I swapped the bulbs and aimed the headlights up just a little so it illuminated the tape instead of being below the tape. I used the 25ft./ 3ft rule. It is a great improvement in light down the road and no issues with oncoming traffic. Thought I would post my experience for those who do not want to switch to LED bulbs in halogen housing. Plus I can pick up replacements at any auto store. Since these will most likely not last as long as factory halogen bulbs.

Yea before the LED craze I used Sylvania SS Ultra bulbs in all my vehicles. The last was a 2016 Colorado Z71,4x4, V6, with projector headlights, that worked awesome, then I tried them in a 2019 Colorado WT, with reflector type headlights and they were ok but not as good as projector headlights, even though the Chevy has 4 separate bulbs in hi an low, that all come on with high beams. Then I tried MORIMOTO TWO STROKE 2.0, that turned night into day as far as I could see across 4 lanes+! Now I’m greatly dissatisfied with the halogen headlight in my 2024 Sport S, love everything else but the headlights, especially seeing as how it came with ALL LEDS everywhere else! I tried a cheep set of LEDS but they didn’t fit properly, they wouldn’t click in after turning all the way an were loose! So I sent them back and will try Sylvania SSU!

Just bought a 2024 Gladiator like a week ago and saw a video that switching to LEDs you had to take the grill off. Looked easy but this is my first Jeep.
If I put the ultras in is it easy or does the grill still come off?

side note I had a Kia and I upgraded bulbs but they were only lasting months at a time. I was told the lamp in there couldn’t handle the difference. Wouldn’t that happen again to out the Ultras in to the current halogen set up?

to switch to factory LEDs you need to take the grill off
to just switch the blub you need to remove just the air box

Phillips bulbs also work, and in some cases are rated to last longer. But I hardly noticed a difference with any of these compared to the stock bulbs, either.

I swapped in amber LED fog lights for use with low beam, and added small white LED driving combo lights mounted to bumper brackets and relayed off the high beams, while keeping the halogen headlights for snow. Works great.

Grill removal is a no brainer. I did it for installation of LEDs and Bolt hood lock on my JKUR and again on my JTM for the Bolt lock. Having one of these makes it easy.

What if you want more light and live in snow country?
And don't tell me to get heated LEDs, we have them on all the plow trucks and even with the heat they still get covered with snow. The regular halogens will usually stay melted off, snow free.

Yes, I know the Silverstar Ultras aren't as bright as good LEDs, but atleast I don't have to stop and wipe off the snow on my way to work. Not to mention the SSU are way cheaper than a full set of heated LED replacement headlights.

So, NO, they are not trash. Maybe they are not for you, but they are for some.

I've still had the halogen lights iced over on my JT, in snow. This might be part of the reasoning on the change of front grill to not have as deep areas for snow and ice buildup.

Had the SSU and they did what they were supposed to do.It was a little whiter light to me.LEDs were way over priced to me,however I now have the stock LEDs in my 2021 JL and like those better.

On my 4th Gladiator that all had halogen factory bulbs. Did the Sylvania Ultra bulb upgrade on them also and was happy with the results. Never as good as a LED but the little improvement they offered I found value in.

Right on. I just couldn't see spending money on quality led bulbs not meant for the housing I have. Risking I wouldn't like the quality of the beam pattern. I know some say it's the same or better but without a 360 illumination like a halogen bulb has I don't know how it would be.
