Lets get some of the details out of the way, first, then the question:
  • I do not intend to lift the Jeep
  • I'm not looking to rock crawl
  • I'd like to improve the trailer-towing a bit, not sure if that's possible. I *KNOW* I can't increase my payload, short of trading in the Gladiator for a regular pickup
  • I know moving to "stiffer" or higher load-rated (not sure if that's the correct term) springs and shocks will impact my normal ride
So, I'm presuming I'm going to, at some point, need to upgrade the suspension (springs / shocks) and being a total noob, I'm kind of lost. Dual-rate springs? What's with shocks with "dual arms" like the 6paks on Metalcloak? I understand the basics, the "shocks" aren't actually what's absorbing the bumps in the road, they're what're keeping the springs (which ARE what absorb the bumps) from just constantly going up-and-down-and-up-and-down, but after that?

So, suggestions on springs and shocks? Being not exactly into working on a car, I'd most likely have a local off-road shop do the work for me of installing this.

What about the ‘trailer towing’ are you trying to improve?

What are you towing and why do you believe it needs corrected?

And this shows how little I understand suspension ;)

So what we tow is a nuCamp T@B 400 Boondock camper, think a "maxi" teardrop, roughly 3200lbs on the trailer axle when I took it (loaded) through a CAT scale a year back.

We don't have any *problems* as such towing, we don't have a weight distributing hitch or sway bars, I tend to take it easy and keep it to 60-65mph on the freeway (semis pass me!) and while I KNOW the trailer's back there when they do, it's not "white knuckle time" on the wheel. We don't "porpoise" going over bumps.

I suppose, the best way to put it is, I'm looking for a bit more off-road ability while keeping the trailer-towing, at least.
