The member in our FB group installed a G930 dashcam system with a WDR upgraded rear camera in his vehicle, chosen for its 10” size matching the stock mirror. Mounted with the OEM mirror mount, he used a 33-foot cable for the rear camera and replaced the 32GB SD card with a 256GB card, allowing videos to last 6–7 weeks before overwriting. The rear camera is used solely for recording, as the OEM tailgate camera handles reversing.

What's more, he 3D-printed a custom wire cover and rear camera mount, which function perfectly. Overall, the setup is clean, functional, and highly satisfactory. See the pics below.

What do you think?

My experience is mounting the rear that low is pretty useless. All you get to see are the tires and bumper of the car behind you. Given the purpose of a rear camera, you'd really want to get it higher than the trailer hitch. The higher, the better.

I get it that it's tough on the Gladiator to find a good mounting point, but it seems to me mounting it there is the worst of both worlds - poor view, and higher chance of damage from road debris.

Either post pics of the backside of the mirror mounted to an oem mirror stalk proving its oem or I ’m raising the bullshit flag 🚩

He must have figured out how to 3D print an adapter plate because your G930 model will absolutely not fit the oem auto dim mirror stalk. The ball on the OEM mirror stalk is significantly larger than the screw on ball retention plate that comes boxed with the G930 and the one boxed with recommended adapter plate for the Gladiator.

After learning that one has to damage the plug for the auto dim feature just to remove the oem mirror imagine my sheer joy at discovering the Wolfbox mirror mounting system is not designed to fit the larger ball on the oem mirror stalk. I even tried grinding and sanding a spare oem stalk and had to reduce the radius significantly just to get it to sort of work. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

I am the one that WolfBox is talking about and made the mounts for it.

FOR ME, it's hardly useless. I do not use it for backing up, the factory OEM cam works fine for that, I use the mirror as a reflective surface, same as the stock mirror. I use the cams for strictly recording the traffic around me and It gives MORE than adequate view for that. If I mounted it to the top of the license plate it would be a whole 7" higher. Now, I admit some of that benefit might be that my JT has a 3" lift and I run 38s so it's a smidge higher than stock, nothing too crazy. Sure if someone pulls up right behind me it limits the view while they're there at light/stop sign. But the same thing would happen if it was on the license plate.

I've no clue how it could get any more damaged by road debris, it's tucked under the steel bumper and above the steel hitch. Heck in inclimate weather the stock back-up camera gets way more wet/dirt on it than the hitch mounted one by a long ways.

I didn't want to put it any higher since I take the top off and use the bed, it was license plate (which I worried more about the size of mounting that WDR to the plate, sticking out) or the hitch. Hitch works for me.

It is NOT the OEM mount that it is attached to, it IS mounted to the WOLFBOX mount 179 which mounts to the factory location, same as the stock mirror.

That is the piece installed with the hole in it, it allows the wires to run up into the plastic trim above, that is why the pics of mine mounted you see no wiring at all.

That 179 bracket connect to the plate for the G930 (full disclosure, some of those pics are the G900 (12" mirror) that I first had installed. I ended up switching to a G930 with Wi-Fi and gave the G900 to a member of my local Jeep club, that is why I have pics of both the G900 and G930).

I don't know about the wiring for the auto-dim feature, I did not have that in my truck, sorry.

Hope that helps.

Yep, what I thought. They sell them with the rubber strap on kit that sandwiches it to your OEM mirror. But if you want to have the mirror fixed mounted you have to purchase the G930/T10 adapter plate which comes with a generic glue on mirror stalk with a ball that is prob 2/3 the diameter of the one on the OEM mirror stalk. Then you have to purchase the drop down mirror stalk, not sold by wolfbox, that uses the same three bolt mount as the OEM one.

The G930 with the recommended adapter plate and drop down stalk on the FCA equipped truck moves the mirror farther away from the windshield and the drivers side visor hits it if you tilt it down. Prob not a huge issue for most folks but its not a direct fit and fairly annoying IMO. The view around the FCA is also partially blocked by the FCA module depending on the angle of the mirror and how far out the front cam is extended. With the cam extended it absolutely interferes with the drivers side visor.

I bought the same mirror stalk you used, which was a PITA to find in stock anywhere, on top of the one included in the Wolfbox adapter plate kit. The same one like your using in my truck developed an annoying rattle after one week. That and the massive PITA involved in trying to wire the mirror though the FCA module and windshield trim is why I no longer have a Wolfbox G930 hooked up in my truck.

So @WOLFBOX no it is not using the OEM mount. Your statement is false and misleading.

I got my 179 adapter FROM WolfBox when I bought my G900, not sure why you could not find it. Also, I THINK (not defending, just saying) I think he was referring to the bracket as being OE to THEIR mirror is all. His statement does make it sound like it connected the Jeep mount. You seem to have a lot of valid reasons to NOT run one. Good luck, was simply trying to help and clarify.

If it works for you, great. But I never said it was for reversing or anything about the license plate, so not sure where those comments were going. Just sharing that higher is always better when it comes to cameras, you'll capture more which is the whole point.

Wolfbox calls their mounts that they develop OEM mounts, which just confuses people. Sure they replace the OEM mount, but they are not original manufacturer equipment so they should not be called OEM. I assume being that it's a China based company (even though they do have a Denver USA team) it's just the typical Chinese company poorly translating to an english speaking market.

looks good. what I really would like to see is a mount that moves the wolfbox closer to the windshield
And higher up toward the header. That is the holy grail of Jeep front visibility.
When I get home next week from MOORE Expo I plan to start the install of the G930, and I plan to design and print a mount that will keep the mirror high and forward. I also plan to write up a solution to swappable cameras for those who want to run a camera on their truck and their trailer.

I do really like Wolfbox products, I've had their G900 PRO and now have the G930 to install in the JT, and I promote them whenever someone is asking about dashcams, but ever since they joined the site and started heavily pushing the G900 I've been saying it's not an ideal product for our vehicle. The G900 is just too big, and even the smallest option, the G930, is still technically too big and doesn't have a good mounting option. I really wish they would re-evaluate the mounting options for the Wrangler and Gladiator and offer something that works properly with these platforms.

if you do design one, do you mind sharing the file?

It would be nice if you would share the cable cover. Any chance you would share it with the rest of the forum?

I found a great solution for this. I drilled a tiny hole in the recess where the tailgate handle is. Plastic, so replaceable, but you can’t really even see it. I ran the cable through the same fittings as the rest of the wiring going to the tailgate. It works very well and is high enough that the rear view looks completely natural.

I need to do a full write up of the install. Life has gotten in the way lately.
