Cape Henolopen , Fort Miles is having a defense day , we didn’t know but seeing WW2 planes flying by is cool , but brings up the sad part, people in America did not think the war was at home, but Merchant Marine service paid the price with many tankers sunk coming out of Delaware Bay , there are observation posts along the beach controlling the gun batteries at Fort Miles , that look like the guns of Naveron from the water, I still find coins dated 1941-43 at times on beach but always toss them back, they are not to be taken.
Fort Miles never shot a shot in defense as America took the war to Germany and the U-Boats were called home.
Everyone served in WW2, not just the enlisted, not sure how Americans would serve if needed again…..Jack
Sitting at a tower and can’t make out the truck a mile up the beach, perfect!

Somber stuff. I can’t imagine being drafted. That’s got to be a thing. I hope my kids never need to experience that.

Edit: I want some fish pictures. :)

Interesting stuff. We have old submarine net anchor points here in RI . They stretched nets across the bay entrances to keep German submarines out. There’s also older forts in the area to protect the bay from Brits from the Revolutionary war. There’s actually great lobstering right under one of the forts.

It took everyone coming together to overcome it. Receiving 2 ration books and standing in line to receive their distributions. Retooling factories (the ones we have still)…etc…. Everyone had to contribute. Amazing.

My grandson will have to give up his Korean citizenship before he turns 18 or else he'll have to serve in their military for a time.

Ordnance Road in Ankeny, Iowa - you can guess why it's called that.

Times were different. Unfortunately, I don’t think a majority of people in the US will ever be willing to give all for this country. Most people today are unwilling to make sacrifices.
Not so long ago the attitudes, beliefs, and morals of the people were different. Not so long ago the government had the peoples best interests at heart. Originally our country had no standing army, we had a militia. Every male 18-40 were the militia. The government did not supply firearms, ergo you brought your own weapons.
I personally believe that every 18 year old should have to serve in one of the regular services for 2 years. I also think that all officers should have to serve as enlisted for 2 years before they can become and officer. You want to go to college? Fine, you can start after you give 2 years to the country. Maybe then everyone would start appreciating what they have. There is nothing that’ll open your eyes more than spending some time in a 3rd world country and seeing how great we have it here. God Bless the USA and the Free world!

While I understand where you are coming from, I’ll skip military action in order to steal fossil fuels from other countries. If we left middle eastern countries alone, maybe they’d hate us less.

The more I have an opportunity to interact with young people in rural Oklahoma the more encouraged I am about America’s future….and that of the world.
Faith, Hope, and Love….I trust in Him.
