I have purchased a 25 Gladiator Rubi X and am looking for a tonneau cover. What’s your opinion of Bakflip covers? I have seen positive reviews but also have seen a lot of negatives about hardware issues, missing hardware and crappy instructions. Any favorite brands with quality and useability?

I have had a few. 2 on JT's and 1 on a Tacoma. Had the Fibermax, an F-1 and an MX-4. all were normal to install except when you have factory bed liner. The holes have bedliner and you need to tap them. Its a PITA. So, would I recommend a BackFlip...YUP! Also have had Rugged Ridge, about the same.

I also had the F1 and now have the MX-4. The F1 was on my Canyon and I loved it. I just got the MX-4. No issues. I was quite torn between the MX-4 and the revolver. I got the MX-4 after my shitty, overpriced Mopar trifold started leaking.

I love my Mopar hard cover. It was a pita since I didn't have the tool for the inserts. I ended up using plain old nuts and bolts. It has served my purposes well.

I had one on my F150. Loved the flush/sleek look, but it always leaked water.

The mounting hardware clips would give way and it would collapse in on itself due to its heavy weight, so I had to drill holes in the truck to permanently bolt the track on.

In the winter it would freeze shut when moisture got in there. If there was ice frozen on top, it wouldn’t fold open, and if you tried folding it, it could dent the top.

The latch mechanism to release it would stick even when I greased it. Ended up cutting off the latch entirely.

In the end, I would not purchase again as it was a constant PITA and not worth the headaches for the low profile look. Maybe would hold up better in a place without harsh winter?

I now have a mopar soft tonneau on my gladiator and am enjoying it. Haven’t used it in winter yet so we will see how it continue to like it.

I have the MOPAR version and it has been solid. My bed stays nice and dry. The only issue I have with it is when I put my cross bars on for overlanding, just not being able to open it fully since my overlanding setup is low. I should have gone taller with that system anyway but didn't want to raise the center of gravity too much.

I prefer the soft covers too. The only caveat I've found is to make sure they have reinforcements that are slightly bowed to keep water from collecting and freezing on top. My gladiator has that now but I had one on my Tundra before that was flat and when we'd get freezing rain and my truck sat outside for 2 days at work I'd get a huge sheet of ice built up that would decide to dislodge itself going down the highway. Thankfully no one was behind me when it did.

The Mopar soft tri-fold sucks. Mine cracked where it folds right as the 3 yr warranty expired. Hopefully, you have the roll up one.

I have had a Tyger soft trifold on two vehicles. They fit good, don’t leak and look good. $230.00 a year ago. Ten minutes to install.

I have the BAKflip and like the mounting and the latch assembly. Long-term reliability is doubtful - the hardware is rusting and the soft impact bumpers have/are peeling off at 1 year. The hardware needs to be upgraded to stainless and appropriate adhesives used to mount the bump stops.
