With every car I’ve bought in California the dealer never offered the manufacturer warranty. They charge $5-$6 K for third party. Big profit item. I refused on my JT and got the Mopar Max Care for 1/3.

Can you share where you purchased it?
Thank you

My two cents: if you really want an "extended warranty " the factory one will be the best if you want it repaired in a dealership. At the dealership I work in, we do work with some aftermarket warranty companies, but it is never as smooth a process as the Mopar extended warranty process. A typical aftermarket warranty works sort of like making an insurance claim for something you are at fault for. The goal is to see if the repair costs can be shifted back to the customer. If not, then an inspector may come out to see if the vehicle is worth repairing. If these hoops are successfully jumped through, then the parts cost and availability issues set in. Some aftermarket warranty companies will pay only a certain amount for labor and parts, so the customer picks up the difference.

In contrast, the Mopar warranty pays the factory parts and labor costs. The customer pays a small deductible, the warranty picks up the rest. There are a few things that may not be covered, but that can be determined before any repairs are done. In my case, I have always refused to buy an extended warranty, I told the finance person that I am the extended warranty, and I understand that the likelihood of me making any claim that would exceed the cost of the warranty is very low.

In Cali and some other states you can't buy Max Care on line. Long story about why. Try calling Mopar 800-442-2666 or 800-521-9922. I got Max Care last July by calling.

I haven’t had an extended warranty on my last two vehicles - and didn’t need it.
I’m still on 3/36.

For what its worth…

Don’t buy an extended warranty while you’re still under the factory 3/36. Buy it when your 3/36 is about to expire. Remember…your Jeep also has 5/60 on the drivetrain. The point….. Keep your money in YOUR bank account (invest it) …… Don’t give it to them until you have to. Avoid paying for something that you won’t even use until after the 3/36 is expired.

You really need to do a deep dive into the fine print and learn exactly what’s covered and what’s not. Research each 3rd party company or OEM for reviews and customer feedback.

How much is this going to cost and for how long?
Of everything that’s covered - what would it cost you in parts/labor to fix it without warranty? Could you buy parts and fix it yourself (or local garage)? What are the chances these ‘bigger’ failures would occur?

Sure… it’s peace of mind…. OR…. You decide to take that gamble & hope you never need any repairs at all ….and/OR….. you’re happy with finding ways to get it fixed yourself.

When I bought my 2024 new the finance manager didn’t want to sell me the Mopar warranty. Proposed the Assurant warranty. I rarely buy warranties, but with all the electronic failure modes in new vehicles and so many warranties covering only mechanical failures, I opted for it. Price was right. I rarely travel outside of NC, so I figure I’ll be getting service at the same dealer where I bought the the vehicle and the warranty so I assume I’ll not have issues with them honoring the warranty.

I called a friend who was formerly in the business of “adjudicating” vehicle warranty claims. He said if he was buying a warranty, he would be Assurant. I hope I never need it, regardless.
They're on my short list. Thanks.

All good points. We're out of warranty, so it's a Go-NoGo decision. thanks for the inputs.

Get the Mopar Max care for 2500 or so. Mopar is cash poor and the warranty's are on sale all the time. Any national dealer can sell you yours. Got mine out of Texas like a lot of others on this forum.

FYI. in my experience California, Florida and Kentucy residents can't buy an extended warranty on line because it's an insurance policy and they must buy from a state licensed insurance agent. The phone numbers I posted will get to a licenced person.

With all the drama likely on warranty service needed I'm in the OEM plan. Even with it some service clowns try to deny service. My experience was early this year before mine hit 100000 miles. The ass clown service guy was trying to weasel out of it starting with "I've got to verify your extended warranty" then trying to say it wasn't in the system. I walked out to the warranty fiance guy asked him to print out a copy for me. Then walked back with it, he was still trying to get out of it and I've got to pay to get it towed in then after it's inspected maybe they will reimburse me for the towing. My insurance company covered the towing, and I paid the copay for the warranty service. My only problems with my dealership has been the service department. On extended warranty only vehicle I've seen it being a wise choice has been my Gladiator, on my prior Jeeps it was a rip-off or unnecessary mark-up. Damn I miss the 4.0 engines and simple systems.

As posted upthread, I bought an Assurant warranty a year ago when I bought a ‘24 Sport S because the dealer didn’t want to sell a factory warranty. $1974 for ten years or 100k miles. $100 deductible. I just traded that Jeep to another dealer for a Rubicon. They wanted to sell me a Zurich warranty. I didn’t purchase that, and after politely badgering the finance guy asking him why they don’t like to sell the factory warranty it sounded like the aftermarket warranties are much more profitable for them to sell. He was otherwise very straightforward and a pleasure to deal with.

Anyway, after I go down to the selling dealer from last year and cancel the Assurant warranty this morning, I’m going to be searching this forum for the name of a CJD dealer who has the best deal on a factory warranty.

I may or may not buy it, but if I do that’s the route I’m taking.

A good friend of mine used to own the second largest aftermarket warranty company in the US.

He had a G5 and his own pilot on standby 24/7. He took me to lunch one day in Phoenix (from VA). It was a VERY lucrative business. He sold the company about 8 years ago and now buys and sells rare Porsches for fun…

All this to say that most of the times you won’t get your money out of it. I know there are people who do but the averages work in favor of the house…like gambling.

I think I'm screwed. 2020 Glad with 79,000 miles on the clock. Checking MaxCare it won't provide with that high of miles unless I'm missing something.

We got the dreaded ESS light and CEL with misfires galore on our 3rd day of ownership and now I'm panicked that we just bought a bad truck. I denied the highly overpriced warranty that the dealer offered at purchase because they are always a rip-off IMO.
