Aftermarket, Third Party Warranties: Yes? No? Maybe?

We declined the dealership offering on our 2020 Glad. But starting to rethink that after seeing some of the repair price tags on critical components. Looking at the usual suspects you see on TV, but wanted to hear from anyone with any experience, Good, Bad, or Ugly on aftermarket warranties. All stock 3.6L Rubicon with 40k miles.

Problem with aftermarket warranties is finding a shop that will actually honor and work within their process criteria. They are biased to look for any reason to not pay out and the fine print needs to be read and understand. They are also keen on using salvage parts for major assemblies rather than new or rebuild.

I think you are past it at 40K miles, but really only the MOPAR MaxCare warranty (service contract) has any teeth and proven positive track record.

Just picked up a 2nd Gladiator (2022) with 28k on it and went ahead and purchased an aftermarket warranty. For the small difference in price the piece of mind that mechanically its covered is nice.

Allow a suggestion: Get with a Jeep (FCA) dealer and consider a Factory Used Vehicle Service Contract. Month ago or so there was a dealer posting on the forum selling Mopar service contracts near or at cost. Personally, When I buy one-- I only buy the Manufacturer's service contracts. (Dos Equis)

When I bought my 2024 new the finance manager didn’t want to sell me the Mopar warranty. Proposed the Assurant warranty. I rarely buy warranties, but with all the electronic failure modes in new vehicles and so many warranties covering only mechanical failures, I opted for it. Price was right. I rarely travel outside of NC, so I figure I’ll be getting service at the same dealer where I bought the the vehicle and the warranty so I assume I’ll not have issues with them honoring the warranty.

I called a friend who was formerly in the business of “adjudicating” vehicle warranty claims. He said if he was buying a warranty, he would be Assurant. I hope I never need it, regardless.

I've only ever had Mopar warranties (3 to be exact) so i can speak to that as a positive experience. if you can find a way to get any time left on a Mopar warranty but probably not much on a 2020. when i bought my 2024 the finance manager offerred both, I walked across the lot to the service manager i've known for years and they told me if I plan to get work done at dealerships better stick with Mopar because service managers get annoyed trying to hassle with third parties and often deprioritize the work waiting on replies from said third party. so to Hootbro point, if you have a shop you like that will accept a third party maybe thats ok but i wouldn't get one without knowing where it will work for sure.

It may just be peace of mind. @Hootbro is correct in my area No shops will take after market service plans . They claim they dont want to pay what it takes to get it right.

I guess if it has to be used in the future, we will see...but was told that it could be used essentially anywhere with ASE certified mechanics. Our area is relatively rural and in past experiences havent had issues finding shops to take warranty work, even if it was an aftermarket warranty.

Im very rural to and they told me cash on the barrel head .

The only extended warranties worth the paper they're written on are the ones offered by the manufacturer. They're more expensive but if you must, they're the safest bet.
