Having some Jeep trouble in the Smokies?

Hi all, so I don’t if anyone can help me at all. I’m in the smoky mountains with my family right now on vacation. And we are on our way back off the main road after getting some coffee.

Start climbing a lil elevation up and down getting back to our place and my Gladiator just seemed like it didn want to shift/almost seemed like it was bogging down and wanted to stall. It would get a lil jumpy when you hit the gas and not go anywhere. It was a lower speeds some of those turns it would have to shift back into first or second. I took a lil video clip of it when we got back to where we are staying. You can somewhat hear it and see the rpms are going no where. My foot was to the floor. Audio quality isn’t the greatest, it’s on my iPhone. But I’m hoping you guys can some what hear it. I’m hoping this isn’t gonna destroy the rest of my week. Never had an issue like this before. Might try and drive to the local dealership tomorrow morning and tell them what happened. I dropped my family off tried recreating what was happening and it didn’t do it again. Don’t need the trans to grenade out here if thats what it could be. Recently had the oil changed by my local dealership but that was prob 600 miles ago now. And filled up at one of the shell stations around here. Maybe 30-40 miles on it since the last fill up. Had to split the video said it was to long.

You might want to provide some more specific info on the truck itself to start. Diesel, gas? Manual, auto? Codes?

Also, if by local dealership you are referring to Rocky Top in Kodak........good luck. Actually, any of the service depts at dealers around here wouldn't ever be accused of what I would call "giving a shit".

I’m prob freaking out a lil bit since it happened out of no where. Just got off the phone with a friend who’s a mechanic and said it’s prob just all the turns, gong and up and down on the hills and constant shifting the trans just doesn’t know what to do. I just took my jeep out again and it didn’t do it once. It’s an automatic, no codes thrown, 3.6. So fingers crossed it’s nothing. He also said stay away from the dealership around here haha and don’t worry bout it. I think I was just going right into panic mode.

I mean, I live here and have driven every Jeep we have owned in and around these mountains.......on and off-road, and I have never experienced what you described.

That said, since just about every third vehicle around here is either a Wrangler or Jeep of some sort, you shouldn't have any issues finding someone to take a look at it, even if it's not the dealer.

Idk maybe the trans needs to relearn the driving habits around here vs where I’m coming from? I’m also on 37s and stock 4.10s. So maybe that doesn’t help it either. I would imagine if it was something bad it would keep doing it? When I just took it out it again it didn’t do it once, smooth as can be. But I’m also not a mechanic either. I can wrench on suspension and things of that sort. But not engines, trans etc.

Sea level, not this whatsoever. These windy elevated up and down back roads on these hills is def new for this.

Ok, you mentioned Smokey mountains and had to ask. The highest point of that is around 4000-6600 ft so thought maybe what’s its used to and “learned” is quite different to where you’re experiencing troubles.

Did you have your eye on the temp ratings during the issues? Was there a spike in that that isn’t normally seen?

When I did a check on the temp it looked fine right after it happened.
