It would appear although there are more Jeeps in CA, those numbers include the early versions. My guess is that many of those came up from Mexico where older Jeeps are common and VAM was big years ago.
???
why Mexico?
how old is “older”?

Pre emissions years would be my guess and pre emissions change years models that allow updated engine options. AKA replacing a 258 with SBC or LS. Then add in the 20-25 year older vehicle rules for imports.

Yeah, I'd like a V-8 but not happening for me. Heck, I'd be good with a solid inline 6 of reasonable displacement say 242 cid "4.0 N.A." that you don't have to disassemble half the engine to replace spark plugs or other things.

Why Mexico? It's probably the official vehicle in some areas. VAM built a lot of them, and a lot of Jeeps end up down there, some coming back with seasonal workers.
VAM came up with the idea for the 4.0.
To me, anything 90s or before is "older" and if you look at the numbers that were included in what I posted, they included older years (TJ, etc.) for CA, but not others, likely because there's a lot of older Jeeps down there in southern CA, or ranch and farm territories of CA.
They tended to keep them running for forever.

So, no mention of any magical things again.

They won't be in any 26 order books, so mooooove that goal post lol.

The JL 392 extension through 29 was confirmed way back on May 23 BTW.,

Anyways, photos.

FINALLY I GET TO SEE THE PICS BEFORE THEY SELF DESTRUCT!!!!

Far as the rest: I heard the guy who cleans the service bay at a dealer three states away has a friend who is a lot porter at a dealer in Colorado who knows all the sales guys at all the Greater Portland, OR Jeep Dealers says he thinks he heard the assistant finance manager at a store in Arizona say the V8 is definitely maybe coming in the Gladiator and likely next month as a late 2025 model. It was supposed to be a 2024 but you know, supply chain.

Also: For as many of us that have said we'd buy the 5.7L if offered, that's probably about twice the amount who actually would so the numbers track.

Over on the Ram TRX forum there is a dealer advertising 2026 Hellcat Durangos at $76k and saying with Stellantis' current pricing they seem to be leaning more towards volume versus mark up like recent years. So maybe, possibly, hopefully if a hemi does come to the Gladiator it will be reasonably priced regardless of if it is a 5.7 or 6.4 or... a hellcat 🤞😆

Remember way back when on the The Price is Right where all cars won had "California Emissions?" Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Anyway, the CA car market is something like #6-#7 in the world. It's too big to ignore and from a scaling position easier for the manufacturer to comply with Sacramento's regs rather than have different parts/systems for the rest of the US.

DOJ isn't ignoring California, they have Cali under the Microscope.

Price will be the angel or the devil in the V8 sweepstakes. If they go the Wrangler 392 route where they force you into the top of the line JL that hits $100K, then forget about it. Devil. But if they can market the 5.7L version as a stand-alone engine option, say charge $7995 for the V8 (I just made that number up), then you may have an angel. MSRP of a Rubicon is $51,695, so if you could get a 5.7L V8 Rubicon for $59,690, you'd really have something there.

Let the people decide...don't force them into a $100K Dirt-Road Debt Diva.

Price it like the RAM 1500 for 2026 at $2,895
although in this case the 3.0L is the better engine.

If power and speed are your only measuring stick then sure, 3.0 SST is a better engine.

Also if you can ignore the current growing pains, IE: Thermostat issues (where they stay closed yikes), oil cool leaks, misfires, burnt out cats, etc.

Also as far I know currently it sounds like separating the trans from the engine requires lifting the cab. Not really an issue, just a "bonus".

While I'm sure this isn't the majority, I can say its not a very common motor in comparison to the 5.7 yet and issues are very easy to read about and find on just about any forum. Eventually they'll be sorted out, I just wouldn't opt for one yet. Im pretty certain the return of the 5.7 is based off the trucks with the 3.0 sitting on the lots. The buyers for the 1500 market are not really interested in it it seems. At least locally just about any dealer within 50 miles of me has trucks with the 3.0 that have been sitting for nearly a year and are marked down >$10k.

That particular 5.7 is eTorque - they could afford a lower price as it doesn't kill the numbers so badly.
No "fines" now - but that may not hold forever.

Nothing new. JLU 4xe requires cab off for transmission swap.
