2023 gladiator v6 turbo Willys s sport edition truck. I noticed my auto stop start not turning on. everything else works & scroll through menu it is fine far as voltage 14.3, temps, etc. got full tank of gas & I even tried turning off the A/C & all auxiliary items & tried pushing in the button for when you turn it off the light comes on then push it again to turn it back on, but it still not working. one would think if it's a fuse issue something else wouldn't work. it's a brand-new Auxiliary battery was installed in July from dealership just before my 36,000-warranty expired, but they only charged the main battery at the time. everything was working fine up until a few weeks ago. I did drive for over 8+ hours out of state it still didn't work after that trip. then another several hours a few days later after that trip still didn't work. that was about last week & A few days ago I changed out the cabin & air intake under the hood both filters they looked okay but did it anyway. I had oil changed a few weeks ago & tires rotated & they did the normal check at the dealership. she got about 40,000 miles on it. I drive everyday about 20 to 30+ miles or less. I have through jeep the extended platinum Maintenace/powertrain plan for 72 months/72,000 miles. I don't think it covers any sensors, electrical stuff. I don't have the Mopar warranty I was thinking maybe of trying to reset the computer, but I want to do it right way if I disconnect the battery. that I will need someone to walk me through it. these newer cars are a bit touchy about doing that.

New doesn't mean fully charged, have you been on any long drivers or mostly short commutes?

As my regular routine is a 2-mile drive to/from work I've started using a trickle charge, first on my 2020 JT to keep the battery for dying and now I use it once a week to keep it and my wife's 25 JL healthy.

What does the ESS page say? Big clue there! 14.3vdc tells me the alternator is attempting to charge the batteries. That could be normal!

Let's assume that your ESS page says not ready battery charging. After your long ride and start stop still not showing ready, you can try charging both batteries independently and resetting the IBS. Your previous battery replacement in July could have been done incorrectly and your IBS is confusing the ECU as to the state of charge. Start over!

This may be a stupid question. I bought a new gladiator. I just found out about the auxiliary battery. Does it only work the start/stop function? What happens if you unplug the auxiliary battery ? Will the vehicle crank?

Let's try charging both batteries independently and doing an IBS reset.

If you are capable, remove the ground cable from the main negative post. Keep it isolated! To verify you have disconnected the main ground, all power should be removed from the vehicle. If you still have lights on the dash, you have disconnected the aux ground. Note that is the aux and isolate that cable, and disconnect and isolate the other cable on the main negative post.

With an AGM battery charger, connect the red lead to the main positive terminal. You will not need to disconnect or remove anything from the main positive. Connect the charger black lead to the cable that you removed and isolated. Keep it isolated from everything else. When it is done charging, move the black charger lead to the main negative post.

At this time you can disconnect that small connector at the main negative post. This is the IBS connector. Leave it off while you charge the main. When the charging is complete, reconnect the Aux neg cable to the main neg terminal first. You should not see any lights on at this point. If you see lights, you reconnected the main ground cable. After the aux ground cable is reconnected, reconnect the main ground cable to the main neg terminal. Now reconnect your IBS connector back to the IBS sensor.

You can add another step while the batteries are still isolated and fully charged. If you have access to a volt meter, you can see what the battery voltages are. Be sure to let them sit 20-30 minutes after charging before you check them.

The aux battery will keep your computers alive during an ess engine start. Normally during any engine start, you will see a significant voltage drop. Computers don't really care for that so essentially that is what your aux battery is for.

I would suspect you will see the avengers light due to the aux battery failing the start up test if you remove or disconnect the aux. You may read up on this on this site, but pulling fuse f42 will prevent the pcr from opening. This will trick the ecu into thinking that the aux battery is the same state as the main. Do some research before you attempt this.

Well just my luck today auto start came on step on gas screen flashed red for a second got to another light it came on then engine turns off and check engine light. I got car to start again turned off the auto start check engine light stayed on got to Auto zone the main battery was bad. They couldn’t install it because of the computer situation. I Got H6 battery and now at pep boys to do the install.
fingers crossed it also didn’t drain the 2nd battery hopefully everything will re-charge and behave again.

Take it out on a drive and see what it says.

When you get home, do what I said above. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Your "NEW" pep boys battery is not fully charged, your Aux is most likely severely depleted.
Charge both. Reset the IBS.

Letting kids at pepboys replace your battery is not what I would call an ideal situation. I hope it works out.

Had to look up IBS. I thought you guys were having some bathroom troubles.

If ESS stops working, don't you just say"hallelujah" and move on?
