My wife's best friend drives a Mach-E. It adds a 30 minute trip to Buc-ee's from Nashville to Atlanta to charge, and other than that it's great for around town. I went and looked at one after my wife couldn't quit talking about how much she likes it. I missed out on a $300/mo lease with nothing down- and that was because they were just out of stock of them.

When I got to the dealership the sales guy looked at me and said "if you look at this thing like a Mustang, you'll hate it. If you look at it as a poorly named electric crossover, you'll love it". I thought that was pretty telling.

Salesguy be like "Sir, reach down in your pants, is it smooth or do you feel a bat and balls? Right, so what you want is the GT 5.0." :CWL:

Ain't no way, ain't no how am i buying a f'ing electric car.

Until you line it up next to a mustang and gap him (even if it's to the next light on the street). 4.3s 0-60 for the mustang...and 3.3s for the poorly named CUV.

Not their stated intention.

If they decided they wanted to save it they could plug in ICE engines, but idk what the point of that would be, it would still be 60k for a crappy Wrangler, or crappy Wagoneer, depending on your view.
Well an ICE version should be cheaper given the general cost difference between ev and ICE.

I see them doing the Charger thing.

Testing the waters with all electric…when it inevitably fails, they’ve got two ways they can go; do the REEV bullshit, where they put a small motor in (do they even have non-turbo 4 cylinders in the FCA lineup right now? I don’t think so) but just as a generator, or they go full ICE with the turbo 4 waiting that I’m sure is on the back burner for this already…oh, and they’ll sell it for 10 grand cheaper I’d guess/hope.

You could run the trail from placerville both directions and make it back with 100 miles of range.
What about running the AC and taking a lunch break?

Are you doing 7 course meals on the trail? Do you honestly believe you'll burn 150 miles of range from the AC on a trail at an average of 8k feet elevation? I dont think I've ever turned on the AC on the Rubicon but you aren't burning that kind of range if you ran it on max the whole trip. You honestly idle with the AC on and eat inside the vehicle? So much for experiencing nature while out wheeling I guess? And my example of 100 miles was if you ran it both ways from the trailhead that's farther from town. In reality if you charged at placerville and ran it straight through to Tahoe it's close to 50 miles total from charger to charger. And most trails around moab are the same.

I don't know if I'll burn that range, that's why I asked. I hear that Moab can get very warm in the summertime.

Ya this is going to be an absolute fail at the price point and drivable range. Esp with Scout Motors coming out with their models STARTING under 60k.

Definitely but even in August when we were there and it was 104⁰ we sat in the shade and ate lunch. With EVs I'd be more worried about the winter months and snow wheeling trips as the batteries don't like the cold and basically use the heat to keep them from getting too cold even when the vehicle is off. I've never done more than 15-20 miles of serious snow wheeling in a trip though and we usually had back to town for a warm lunch and cold beers after playing in the snow. There Definitely is more planning that needs to go into off roading or even road tripping an EV but they are pretty useable otherwise. Like I said, nobody has built a proper off roader yet as 4 wheel independent suspension is crap in my opinion. At least the scout will have a solid rear axle.

So they made an electric Jeep Bronco...
Yes, and I think that's the point. We all drive long ICE bricks that get horrible gas mileage and we don't GAF (maybe the diesel guys do). We are not close to the buyer demographic on this.

Our jlur and jt only have 240 miles of range thanks to the lift and massive tires. I've never come close to needing to add fuel anywhere. Show me the trail where it's an issue. Tahoe is within 5 miles of 1 trailhead for the rubicon and placerville is maybe 20 miles from the other. Both cities have chargers. The trail is only 18 miles. You could run the trail from placerville both directions and make it back with 100 miles of range.
I get your point. A lot of it is also a change in mind-set where we know where gas stations are and you still have to look for places to charge an EV, at least here in South Florida. I think of my being here in the Keys and about the nearest place I get to really off-road is out in the Everglades. The best places and trails, IMO, are more towards the center which is about 65 miles or so from here. So roundtrip is 130 miles before we even get off-road. Then I never really measured how far we have gone off-road but we are talking about tons of mud if you trek there near the rainy season. I'm not sure how much electricity or even how a 12k winch works and what it does to an EV battery but that has to be considered also.

Yes, I guess it is just a matter of stopping along the way and "filling up" while there are still EV charging stations before you get near the edge of the Everglades since once you cross the line and the Everglades begin, you have 85 miles or so of nothing except for alligators, spiders and snakes and a couple of Indian gas stations/convenience stores that may or may not have chargers.

I guess it's just a matter of planning and getting used to it.

So here's my take on it. This place's members are the complete wrong market for this vehicle, no one that finds a Gladiator is their ideal vehicle will ever or was ever shopping for this Jeep Recon or anything even close to this. So I'm not surprised that no one here is just panting to get your hands on one.

NOW, my wife will LOVE this car and after a two year shakedown we might trade her brand new fully loaded Mazda CX-70 for one of these.

But first, EVs. I never even liked the concept of them until my daughter and son-in-law bought a Tesla Y about 3 years ago (BTW they are BOTH hardcore conservatives, no green energy bunnies in MY family) because it made sense for their life in the city. They are both car lovers and have about 7 vehicles between the 2 of them.

Since then they now own 3 Teslas. A Y, X and a Tesla truck and after actually driving them I LOVE those vehicles too. Actually I would buy a Tesla truck tomorrow if like them I had the inclination to own my own small fleet of vehicles. The damned thing has an incredibly comfortable ride, it is a ridiculous safe vehicle for the occupants and making guys in "muscle cars" cry when they see what you can do 0-60 in a monster truck is just precious. Plus it's kind of cool to call your truck and have it come and pick you up unassisted. So my take on this is that the market for EVs is real and in my city just about every 3rd car I pass is a Tesla.

Now, my wife is into comfort, but she also loves versatility. For many years she (we) owned a H2 Hummer that I almost had to pry out of her cold dead fingers, (before that it was a Lincoln Navigator). Basically this thing was like driving your living room around, and yet It was also a damned fine off road vehicle once I removed the ladder they put on the sides so my short wife could climb aboard. So while I could cross shallow rivers with it when we ventured off road (electric lockers) in "her car" she loved having seats that were basically leather Lazyboy comfortable and and all the other creature comforts a luxury brand gives you for her everyday life.

So at some point in the future, if I put in front of her a premium interior, in a good looking vehicle that is actually reasonably off-road capable AND it fits her day-to-day lifestyle, at a price she will not consider out of line (The new electric Hummer which she has been lusting after is over $100,000) and from a company that is not a "startup" like Rivian and others, she will probably just ask how quickly can it be delivered. And based only on my super light research on this subject I think Jeep has a winner in this one.
