Why would they? Same alternators as I've had over the years and likely the same one on the 4.0 in my SX4 now, with almost 200,000 miles on it and all original.
Maybe the EARLY models which used GM alternators, but after 91 they used Denso - decent alternators.
One of the many things I hated about my XJ was that it was originally an AMC design so it was a hodgepodge of parts and a bad combo of standard, metric, and torx sockets. Mitsubishi starters, denso alternators, etc etc.

Sort of like Chrysler did, too.
Few actually make their own electric parts - so it's not just AMC there.
It's how things were for years, for that matter. Working on cars in the 1980s was fun as you didn't know if you needed to grab the 1/2" socket or a 12mm. There was a lot of back and forth.
Those years were transitional, so there was often a mix of sizes and fastener types.
Chrysler also used Denso and Mitsubishi parts. Toyota used Motorola charging systems for years. GM and Chrysler used Kelsey-Hayes brake parts and wheels.
It was an industry thing

You’d think so, but still a hodgepodge of leftover originally AMC sourced parts.
Naw, even in 1988 Chrysler was using their stuff. AMC was one of the original "just in time" companies and didn't have things laying around for months. Date codes on parts were typically not even a full month out from build dates. Chrysler had 12 years of their own hands on by 96. The 4.0 was fairly changed by then, at least two revamps of block and head. My 1987 Comanche had Chrysler decals under the hood .........
Iacocca had ordered AMC stuff to be put in dumpsters before the ink dried. Little survived.

There was a guy who had an alternator shop about 10miles from me and me and my Dad would have alternator rebuilt. He also could order parts for them would sell them to you but if you assembled wrong it wasnt on him. I think thre is a possibility these alternators' ca be rebuild also.

How did we go from 35's and new trim levels to discussing alternators?

Seriously though.......that's sort of the way these threads go. If it's got 10 pages of replies and is less than a month old, might as well settle in and enjoy the ride.

Just never ever say it's the last Jeep you'll ever own. Talk about going south, north, east, west and 100 other directions.
