“A few bags of dirt...nothing heavy? You’re attempting to be funny, right? It shares some components with the Pilot, but there are significantly heavier components - especially in the suspension. This is a full-on half-ton truck. Also, 5000lb towing capacity - on all trim levels may not be F150 level but it’s nothing to sneeze at.

I have a 12 year old first-generation Ridgeline that I bet has hauled more sh!t than most full-size pickups. I’ve had the bed overflowing with damp topsoil many times, as well as carried gravel, jammed-full lumber loads, appliances, furniture. It handles just about anything I can fit in there....and of course with a cab full of comfortable passengers and my chain saw, golf clubs and who knows what else locked safely in the trunk.

And it hauls my tractor & (obviously) its trailer - maybe 3000lbs? - without straining, even on windy, hilly gravel roads.

It drives as well as an SUV, but in my world it’s a very capable truck.

The Ridgeline is still a Honda minivan with the back chopped off...

to each their own..

You don’t have to like it, but tell the truth about its capacities, etc. - the data is readily available.

Traded in my 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland hemp this year - even though I loved it - because at about 130k miles it started costing a fortune in repairs, I guess because it’s a Chrysler.

I looked at them in 2014 and purchased my Toyota Tacoma...pulled my boat and enclosed trailer with all of the mini trucks at the time and found it to do the job best..

The Ridgeline was the smoothest ride and most car like inside but pulling the boat on a windy day just wagged the car too much, glad to find that out prior to dropping the dinero on it... if I did not hunt, like to go on oddly maintained roads or tow it may have been the one.

Never had great luck with GM product but they have a capable little truck with the twins...

The Nissan was just tinny and seemed to be entry level basic truck.

Chose the Tacoma (terrible back seat room in the 4 door, rear drum brakes and terrible seats for the long haul causes lower back numbness) because it checked more boxes for my needs...a bit weak up hills pulling but has been a great vehicle for the last few years...

Going with the JT this time because I have always liked my Wranglers ( some not so reliable) (fingers crossed here)...I get the off road capability to overland and hunt

Hope it works out great for you.

I’m considering replacing my gen 1 RL because it’s getting a little grungy....maybe time for a change.

Agree with your assessments of the midsize truck entries. The GMs are always rated high...I should probably at least check them out, but I’ve been sold on Honda & Toyo quality for a long time & have owned some great machines from both. Traded the JGC for a ‘16 GX460, which I like a lot and should tow very well.

However, after 8 years of living with it, I’d probably be lost without the RL trunk...

I love these debates. A lot of this is just a mix of what you like and what you think you will do with it. There are a lot of great options out there.

I know it has gotten some flak in another thread, but I am now considering this "truck" if the JT comes in too high on price . The Ridgeline gets good reviews and seems to be closest to the JT in terms of lifestyle features, while having a decent sized interior space. It also has a slightly longer bed .I know the front looks like spit, but I think it is something others could consider. Looks like you can actually get "deals" on them too. I know it's nowhere near the Jeep in off road abilities but that isn't where the majority of JT daily drivers will spend their time. Other than the non-locking tailgate and small spare tire space, what do people think about it?
I have a 2019 Honda Ridgeline that I really like. The space, comfort and quality are top great.
There is plenty of storage behind driver and front passenger seat when back seat is locked up.
The ride is more like a Honda’s Pilot than truck.
There is a ton of safe storage under the bed.
The tail gate either swings open of drops open.
It’s a totally reliable vehicle.
My only problem is, sad to say.. I am bored with it. I am planning on trading for a Gladiator to have something fun to drive.

I agree i love the ride and reliability of my 2012 RTL but they are BORING. Luckily i have the 2014 RubiX also, was just going to consolidate to one vehicle. Been waiting and waiting on the 2020 to see what changes they make but still thinking the Glady will have better SmilesPerGallon.

I’ve never owned a labradoodle and never considered a Subaru anything but I just sold my 17 Ridgeline Black Edition with 58k miles on it. I towed with it, moved across the state of NV with it 2 times and had my fair share of road trips with my family of 4.

I’ll say this about the Ridgeline:
  • After upgrading the tires the thing handled Tahoe snow with no problems.
  • Gas mileage was great
  • The interior was super comfortable
  • Power was sufficient (although I give the middle finger to ‘eco mode’)
  • Honda reliability is hard to argue with
That being said, I’m lurking like crazy in this and the JL forum for my next vehicle to start some back road family adventures. Leaning toward a JT as my X5 doesn’t have the cargo room of a truck and the JL would just set me up for more of the same.

The one thing I find the RL and JT do have in common is that they both have acquired tastes in the looks department.

I feel like my Ridgeline has been a placeholder until I get my JT. I love it but it just doesn't have the capability and fun. The ride and trunk will be missed, but I doubt it will be remembered when I take delivery

There are some great trucks lately. Competition is good for the consumers!

I think they started with the Pilot, but could be wrong. Ridgeline has heavier/stronger suspension components than Pilot though.
You are correct, it’s a Pilot with a bed. The bedsides are actually fenders, just like several Big 3 trucks, bolted on.

Best thing, either way he is buying an American made vehicle.

We build these on my line right here in Lincoln, AL.

Ehhhh, what "Big 3" trucks use bed side body panels that are not integrated into the tub? Dual wheel pick ups use what is effectively a flare to accommodate the second wheel set, but the bed side panels are integrated with the tub.

LOL, I thought this was a parody thread.

Turns out you're serious.

I think I saw the Ridgeline was more "American-Made" than everyone else but one or two? lol
