I can say it drives exactly like that chart implies. We have a JK manual and I was a bit used to it.
do you feel you would def have to regear for 37's? 35's? would say 4.56 gears help the manual vs 4.10 in stock form?I can say it drives exactly like that chart implies. We have a JK manual and I was a bit used to it.
1 is low, but that's cool for starting. You're not in it long.
2 is in the same place, so it's what you'd expect.
3 still gives me fits a bit, nothing major but you have to run 2 longer and I forget a lot, go to 3 and sort of dogs for a sec.
4 is fine from there, since it's about the same spread 3 to 4, you're just going faster. It's the old 5, so you can stay in it for most running around where you still want a bit of pickup.
5 to sail along at low rpms.
6 to sail along if you feel like shifting again on easy roads and downhill, and at the highest highway speeds.
I can't say anything bad about it, you have plenty of gears in plenty of places, the range is wider than it used to be.
Worst thing you have to do is the whole point of why we bought a manual.... Shift.
I have 37s and I don't see a problem with it. Plenty of low with that lower 1st and plenty of high with where 6 is.do you feel you would def have to regear for 37's? 35's? would say 4.56 gears help the manual vs 4.10 in stock form?
very fair review. Alot of people just put off this "its a complete fail" for the manual. The auto has a ton of upside to it I guess as well. 8 gears is a fair advantage.I have 37s and I don't see a problem with it. Plenty of low with that lower 1st and plenty of high with where 6 is.
I could see that someone with anything less than the 4.10s might want to move up though.
That's all based on driving of course. Maybe for hardcore rock crawling it would help. I'm more bang through the ruts and mud at work and don't want to get stranded on an old logging road focused, so I think it's fine for my purposes.
The trump card is fun. I go down the road now in my set up the way I want it Jeep with a bed, and realizing the instinct to push the clutch and change gears is sheer joy.very fair review. I really want to get a rubicon but dont plan on hitting a ton of trails. My heart says "you better get a manual" my brain says "the auto has no downsides..." lol
I agree with you. There is just a connection there, especially when you no longer have to think "shift" and you just go and its autopilot. I feel like its dieing out now and I just want to keep that whole thing alive a bit longer. The trump card is fun. I'm driving it, not just pushing the pedal on the right.
Hard to describe just how awesome that is.
Mostly just that you don't need to be in 1st beyond getting it un-stationary. I shift to second almost immediately and go from there. I haven't noticed it being jerky, but it all happens kind of fast ending up in second.Would love someone to drop some knowledge on me vs. me just bitching about what is probably a good vehicle...
I’d quantify myself as a relatively experienced manual owner. My first vehicle was a manual ford ranger. Then a manual BMW. Then a manual wrangler. But this gladiator and I aren’t clicking. My biggest complaint is first gear. Suuuper short. And slow. The microsecond I let up off the gas in first to put it in second, the whole vehicle immediately loses inertia and I get a very jerky transition that is not remotely pleasant. The obviously alternative is start in second and just slip the clutch a ton which I don’t want. Anyone have any tips?
Dude that should not be happening. You should have it looked at.I can't get used to reverse. My driveway is fairly steep and I have to back out. The clutch slips every time no matter how i do it. Can't even imagine what it would be like with a load or a trailer.
is it steep and you have to stop at the top or?I can't get used to reverse. My driveway is fairly steep and I have to back out. The clutch slips every time no matter how i do it. Can't even imagine what it would be like with a load or a trailer.
