Anyone hear about a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty from Chrysler that covers wear items?

Please don’t flame me as I am admitted up front I don’t understand this and may have it wrong. Long story short when I purchased my Gladiator LE it had tires that are causing a wobble \ vibration. The dealer has been giving me the run around. Today I picked it up and it still has the issue so I went back again. I spoke to a different service writer who was very upfront with me. Told me some or all of the tires are bad and need to be replaced. He said it will go much quicker if I call Chrysler and complain because they will call the dealer and probably authorize replacing the tires. So I call the Chrysler number he gave me.

Here’s where it got strange. I’m expecting to need to speak to multiple people, managers etc. The rep who answer the phones listens to my story and says “the tires are covered under warranty for the first 1 year 12,000 miles along with all wear type items like brake pads and windshield etc.” I told him clearly the dealer doesn’t know this and I never heard of this either. He puts me on hold calls the dealer. After 5 minutes he’s back on the line and tells me to go back Monday morning and speak to Dan (New name I have not heard before) he now knows how to put the right code in the computer to get this covered under warranty.

I almost think I got pranked. I can’t believe A) this warranty exists B) my dealer didn’t know C) that after 3 trips to the dealer it really could be this easy.

Has any ever had a claim like this under warranty. This service department clearly has at least 1 guy who isn’t that knowledgeable about the warranty but I really can’t believe he would be this uninformed as 90%+ of his job must be dealing with warranty claims.

Interesting! When it comes to potential tire issues with a vehicle the dealer should swap a set on from a different JT or JL, test drive to see if the issue still exists. If they have done this and determine different tires resolve the problem being experience it should be handled under any new vehicle warranty.

I’m not sure exactly what it means when a tire “gets a flat spot” but I guess that is part of the issue. From what I have learned through this process dealers sometimes let cars get flat spots. This should not be covered under warranty because it is the dealers fault through improper care. However, it’s impossible to prove its the dealers fault vs manufacturing defect so dealers are constantly battling with tire manufacturers to get this covered. My understanding is there is always a back and forth between the dealer, the tire manufacturer, and the car manufacturer but usually the customer is taken care of. Hopefully, I will get this resolved soon. I will post on how it goes.

I think this is a sign.... a sign that it is time to get some real tires on your rig! maybe you can leverage the dealer to give you a deeply discounted price on some better tires :)

Been industry standard for decades that tires are a separate limited warranty and usually covered by a authorized selling dealer of the tire in question. Some dealers will try to accommodate the tire warranty and others will send you down the road to a third party authorized tire place and let you deal with them on any true tire issue.

That agent is also correct and is standard with other vehicle makers that wear item things like brake pads/rotors, wipers, and clutches will have shorter warranty periods unless it can be proven another non user cause is at fault for premature wear of those items.
