I will be purchasing one or the other within the next week or so. The Gladiator is my daily mall crawler and family beach cruiser. I will not be doing any serious off roading with it for now. Already have an LJ,CJ7, and the wife's JLUR that will be better equipped to play.

With that being said I have a 5 ft wife and a 5yo boy that already struggle with no steps, and will be moving to 37s and either the mopar 2" or undetermined 3.5" lift.

I like the idea of the RSE, seems well built but have never seen in person. Anybody have experience with both? Looks and reliability are my main concerns. The larger step of the AMP is appealing but any step at all will make them happy.

Also, would the Amps survive any type of small impact from say running over drift wood at the beach?

I went RSE as I will be taking it off road and wanted the little extra durability you get with RSE. The better half has AMP on her rig and for day to day driving and mild off-road they are just fine. Whichever you chose don’t forget to purchase the parts you will need if you plan on removing the doors.

I put the amp research xl power steps on my gladiator and I love them. With being said I will not be off-roading because these gladiators cost to much and I like my stuff shiny. If you think you may hit some stuff then I would go with the RSE power steps they both cost bout the same and both look good on there

I have the RSE and really like them. The thinner step is not a problem for me. The wider step on the AMPs could be a benefit for those that are less steady on their feet for whatever reason. I’m mid 50s and routinely open the door with two fingers having both hands full of take-out food and manage to step into the truck hands-free. I plant the left foot on the step and simply step / swing in. The RSE step is plenty for me and no one ever called me graceful :)

I personally liked the added benefit of some mid-level protection along with the width at the top. The extra width, essentially matching the flares, keeps dirt, mud and debris off the doors.

oh, and the added support the top of the steps gives is quite nice when you are on your back working under the dash hanging half in and half out of the truck. I did a bit of that work before and after adding the steps. MUCH easier on my back with them.

My buddy has had the AMPs on his Ram for many years and I liked those. I almost got a set for my JKUR but thought they would be a little delicate for a few of the situations I have put that jeep through. Looking back, I know of a couple times where they would likely been damaged.

I think both are fine solutions and I’m sure you will be happy with whichever you go with based on your usage and needs.

I was already leaning towards the RSE just because you never see them around here.

There is some guys in houston making AMP like steps that I have been seeing everywhere. Lsdpowersteps.com talked with somebody from there and didnt get a good vibe though, they were offering a set for $1000 installed.

Can you really tell much difference climbing in and out between the two?

Also, would love pictures. I cant find too much on the RSE, maybe I just suck at google

The Only requirement my wife has made is to have a set of retractable steps, we had a set of AMP steps on our JK & it made a Huge difference day-to-day.
The narrower step would be more of a challenge for someone wearing heels, not suggesting everyone does but I bet some of you do ;)

My wife’s is much lower than mine so not a great comparison from a height perspective. Her’s are minimum 2-2.5” wider than mine. I am traveling this weekend but will try to get pics when I get home mid next week

Look on YouTube there is videos of both sets of steps on jeeps. In one video a couple are on the Rubicon trail in a gladiator with RSE steps and the scrape them up pretty good like in they dented them and they still work and no body damage to the gladiator. There is another set of steps on a Jeep on YouTube that looks like the RSE steps but I can’t remember the brand. Ah found them the other set of power steps is from Aries Automotive check them out they are called Actiontrac power steps

I tried to embed a short video clip of the steps activating but am getting errors.
As for those wearing high heels mentioned earlier, I’m not sure any of my passengers would notice a difference. I don’t think they ever really planted a heel in such shoes, just used the front of the foot. Your heels gang may vary :)

Obviously I chose the AMP. I was able to try out both. The power step was a requirement of my wife. It was the size of the step that swayed my decision. I am 6’ 6” and didn’t need a step. But my 270 lbs drove me to the wider longer step. I have it now for 6 months and luv it.

Haha, I'm not sure my wife even owns high heels. She is a true jeep chick, just too short. We generally keep our rigs short with 33s/35s. Going to be my first with 37s.

I found a few videos, didnt realize it is pretty much what I would consider a "boat side". I like the idea of car doors hitting that before my paint, the JKU I sold before getting this was banged up from momma mobiles in the parking lot.

I do like the wider step on the AMP, but pretty sure I wont miss what I never had.

This thread really just turned in to confirming what I already was kinda wanting in my head
