Hey guys,

I’ve got my first Jeep (JT) and need some help/advice with lifting and tires. I have a Gladiator Sport (w/o max tow) with a 2” leveling kit and 35” tires. That all came on it from the dealer. I kind of have my heart set on 37” tires so I’m considering a 3.5” rough and country lift. I had my eye on the rough country because its budget friendly and most reviews I’ve read say its really good for what it is. I will be doing very little to no off reading so I don’t see the point in spending a lot of money for a lift. This will be a daily driver.

Anyone have any experience with the rough country 3.5” lift?

Will I need to add anything else to make it drive well? Will I need to re-gear if I go up to 37’s?

Attached is my current set up.

I'm not an expert but think 37s with 3.73 gearing will create a pretty doggy Jeep. Are you seeing 8th gear as is? You can adjust your display to tell you what gear you are in if you don't know. It will appear as a small number next to the D in your cluster.

I have an Overland DD with the 3.73 and am hesitant to go much larger than 34s. I am still running stock 32s on the OEM wheels. I am about to put in Rubicon take off springs and a Teraflex leveling kit. I expect a little lift from the Rubi take offs and will probably only put in an inch of the leveling kit. I will wheel mine a little but it is really for forest roads to get to MTB trails.

I haven’t driven yet but will hopefully get out for a little bit later today and I will let you know if I get to 8. How do I change the settings to show what gear I’m in?

I see you figured out how to get it to show what gear it is in! Sorry I didn't respond in time. I couldn't remember and had to go figure it out. That is great that it is getting into 8th with the 35s. Now that I have the Rubi suspension and leveling kit there is plenty of room for 35s. I ended up doing the whole 1.5 inches and it looks awesome. When I get a winch on there it will probably rake just a hair. Now I need to figure out adjusting the headlights so I don't blind oncoming traffic.

I’ve got Clayton on 37s. Amazing look. Waiting till finances get normal to do gears. IMO that’s the perfect proportion but I’m biased.

I wouldn't run 37s on 3.73 gears. 35s is already borderline. Ihaven't run 37s on my 3.73 but the change from the stock 255s to 35 was definitely noticeable.

4.10 and 37s is still outside what is recommended. But that setup, like the 3.73/35 setup, is close enough to get by. Basically 37s are to 4.10 as 35s are to 3.73. With no max tow you are 3.73. Doesn't mean you can't but it's probably not going to be a great drive.

I did the Rough Country 2.5” leveling kit and did a 1.5” rear spacer on my Sport S. Sits with a rake of around 1/2” lower in front. Also have 37s with 3.73s. I’m sure I’ll get some abuse here but both fit and ride are really good. I do have a Tazer to adjust tire size(shift points) along with a pedal commander. Still has pep for me. Also getting between 17.5-18 mpg on mixed hwy/street driving. Averaged as high as 19.5 on a trip from PA to Ocean City MD. No regrets here!!

No way I'd run 37s on the 3.73 gearing.
My Overland struggles towing at highway speeds as it is.
You'd be spinning more WEIGHT, too, plus dropping that engine RPM down into the "what are you thinking" range - it would be a pooch, IMO.
Mine struggles just pulling 1600 pounds of flatbed trailer - empty.

They may call them 32s but they match the Rubicon take-offs I run in the winter. I set them side-by-side and they are pretty much the same, height installed is basically no difference. In fact, the speedometer still read fine.
Rolling circumference must be about the same for the speedometer to be ok.
