Hi everyone,

Today I was driving with the freedom panels off and all of a sudden the middle piece of the back window exploded. I was just driving at about 50-55. This should not have happened. My wife, dog, and I were both covered in glass with multiple shards of glass in our skin.

Has this happened to anyone? I feel like this is a manufacture problem. This is a serious safety concern for me and my family.

Wow! Wild...hope everyone was okay. Seems like a warranty issue to me. The sliding glass certainly shouldn’t break.

I can’t imagine one just exploding. I would seriously consider debris or worse yet, someone took a shot at you.

Sorry to hear that a good day in your truck turned into a not so good day. Hope everyone is well and that you get it fixed with no issues.

I would have to say with the limited info that we have it would be hard to say that this was a manufacturing issue. Was the window open or shut? Has the top been off before and not reinstalled correctly? I leave most of my bolts out so it comes off faster myself. Has the top ever been mishandled in some way?

It was closed. I had the other windows down about a quarter of the way.
I’ve taken it off, but put the time to reinstall it like it came. Never had issues before.

Never heard of that happening before on a JKU, JLU, or JT, this would be a unique situation. I'd be pressed to say some outside incident caused this and not a manufacturer defect. I hope everyone is ok. It's going to be tough convincing the dealership that this is a warranty issue

Peaceful Protesters at it again:stop:
I‘m sure that was disconcerting to say the least. Almost 20 years ago, I took a blue paintball to the side of my Silverado going down a dark neighborhood divided 4 lane. Some kid I assume was testing his new toy. I knew I hit nothing in the road and drove on to a lighted parking lot to get out and look things over. A quick car wash fixed the truck but that hard thunk was louder than what I though a stupid paintball would deliver. I even had the radio up at sing-along level. Not AC/DC loud, more like Baby Shark loud.

I figure a real bullet would have left more damage and God forbid, injury or worse. Most likely flying rock, bolt or such. I pulled a 5/8” x 2” bolt out of the grill of my Avalanche once, errr.

But never underestimate the stupidity of a 12 year old boy with a new pellet rifle...

My girlfriend was driving home from work one day and debree was flying off the back of a dump truck and a metal object hit her hood and then flew up and damaged the stock roof rack. Crazy stuff can happens sometimes.
