I have a Max-Tow with the LSD in the rear. I do moderate off roading (Florida). So far the stock setup has done just fine but I know I will be tackling some tougher obstacles in the future. I am wondering if I can move the rear LSD to the front axle and then add either a detroit locker (helical LSD vs clutch style)or ARB air locker to the rear. I'm looking to improve my traction off road and keep costs reasonable. I figure only having to buy 1 diff will save me $500-$1000 in total on the build. I know a double locker is the best option but wondering how this would work.

The rear diff is centered .. The front is not .. Seems impossible to me ...

The Eaton TrueTrac is not an Eaton Detroit Locker, those are very different technologies. A helical geared limited slip is just that, the tires can still spin at different rates. A locker doesn't allow for differential spin when active.

Neither are available for the D44's on our Jeeps.

The ARB is your option at this point. For the hassle and cost to add a clutch type LSD to the front, even if possible, I wouldn't bother. They wear out (I've done so 3X on other vehicles) and aren't particularly great offroad even when new. A TrueTrac front and rear would be AMAZING, forget an ARB if that becomes available.

On both my old Ford and current YJ, the TrueTrac design is a giant improvement for offroad ability without making it impossible to drive on the street.

The carrier doesn't know or care about that. The issue would be the cost to move the ring gears and set them up again, for little benefit.

I guess the question is.... why would you want a true locker one end and LSD the other? Just do it right and have 2 ARBs.
For the Terrain I deal with in Florida 1 locker in the rear is really enough. I just figured if I could repurpose the LSD in the rear why not do it.

If it was my choice I'd install the locker in front axle and leave the Trac-Loc in rear. That's what I did with my XJ years ago and haven't been disappointed with it. FYI: the front axle is only "locked" when 4 Hi or 4 Lo transfer is engaged, look at the right side of your front axle the right hub is only locked up with the sliding coupler then. Unless you have replaced it with 1 piece axle shaft kit. "I installed the Trac-Loc in rear (after instal of XJ D44 axle) and locked the front axle shafts on it. "

Just coming back to this. I am going to follow the recommendation of keeping the LSD in the rear and adding an ARB locker up front. The Gladiator has just been retired as my DD so the LSD should last a bit longer before needing to have the clutches replaced in it. This should buy me some time and hopefully we will see more diff choices come to market.

I'm still waiting / hopefully for a larger selection of lockers / LSD to come out. Ox locker and ARB are all I've seen besides factory Rubicon and Trac-Loc LSD.

I might be retarded, which wouldn't be the first time, but I cant for the life of me find a 32 spline arb front locker for the JT.

Anyone have a link?

Very much appreciated. I looked at that but disregarded it due to it saying "rear" for fitment. But reading the description it says front and rear lol. Clearly I missed that!

Don't feel bad, I missed that detail when I was looking at it too.
