We seem to be lagging behind about a year on everything so far. Between the diesel, 392, and possibly the 4xe. I think we will see if we are on par with the other 2 releases or how far we lag behind and that will tell us when our model refreshes will be coming in terms of time apart.
True; you might be right.

Also, as someone to your South, it disturbs me that you included the "u" in color :P
It isn’t my fault y’all can’t spell down there. ;)

My brain just doesn't work this way. If I commit to this puppy it's not going back to the shelter. I'm saving in earnest too, and not ready to take away from that for a lease payment.

Yeah RIP Gator. Honestly white is super appealing to me right now, but a nice green (sarge) or blue (anvil) would be nice, too. I am in awe of Dune, but I just don't think it looks as good in the snow.

These are all fair points. I've had the current truck for 16 years now, and this one will be joining it for the foreseeable future.

I think maybe I should be comforted to know whether or not MY 2023 will be getting some upgrades by the time I can order a MY 2022.
Where to start...
My start on the JT road started before it was announced indirectly,y first Jeep MJ ordered it in 91 second new Jeep 05 LJ. A year plus before the launch I started to buy a new Jeep Renegade a few days before I pick up I cancelled thinking a better choice might come up and to clear up some prior expenses. I launched then June of that year a buddy of mine passed away unexpectedly, I went to dealership's said order this I will buy it now. Dealership's didn't listen, I knuckled down paid off everything I owed and some. End Jan last year (my LJ just went over 250000 miles) I went in said get me this, a list of what packages and color they found it I got it a 2 days later. Paid off JT from my retirement account 4 months later.
So not a answer but some things to think about...
1# None of us know how long we have.
2# No advise from me or anyone else here that don't really know you or your situation is good advice.
3# Who knows what is going to happen tomorrow.
4# Jeep may or may not still be building JT's more than likely but heck it might have a EV version or what ever by then.

We dropped the U when we left the UK. Now we only speak in Freedom.

I waited and lost my shot at Gobi. So I regret that. Now I have a Sting Gray. But I’ll be pretty irritated if they change out the 3.6 for a boosted line 6 in a few years.

You could always wait for the 2023 to come out and if you don't like the updates buy a 2022, which you may get a deal on.

I don't think mid cycle refresh will hit till '25-'27. Kinda the trend with jeep. Other manufacturers hit after 3rd or 4th yr and vehicle survives 2-3 yrs before new model. Jeep tend to drag out.
I'm leasing due to similar reason. I originally wanted diesel, but wanted to see how the vehicle felt first. I love it. And after hearing about 4xe, I'm now very interested in it and how it does and wrangler. I would figure that option comes out on jt 1-2 yr after. By then my lease will be up, maybe extend 6 month if necessary, and order it how I want.
Another thing to research are possible aftermarket upgrades that can be had for cheaper than options. Example, max tow over Rubicon. I have the same axles and gearing, but lsd instead of locker because I didn't feel I needed them. Still don't. Led light upgrade? Did myself all around for about 525 vs 1000 option. Tho I kinda wish I had blind spot.
So while u wait, take some time researching options and their alts.

I did the same.... I think I'm still glad I waited as there were some issues with the 2020 model, but I do wish they still offered Gator or Gobi (I was going to get Gator). I think Sting Gray looks great in person. I ended up with Blue because I didn't want another gray vehicle ;)

What I did was not wait to enjoy what I want today. You never know what tomorrow holds. At my age I could die anytime without warning just like that. Lost many friends who died unexpectedly before their time.

I got my 2017 JKU knowing the JL will be out next year but I didn't care. I enjoyed my JKU immensely for 3 years and now I got my 2021 JTSS. I love it and I've had a lot of fun driving it around town. If I want the new one with enough upgrades to make it worth getting, I'll get it if it comes to that point.

Thing is, life is short. Deprive yourself for an uncertain future just means you live without for that much longer while burning time on your finite lifespan. I chose to live it up within reasonable means and enjoy it.

Some great points in here.
  • RE saddle - I mean the actual plastics, not the seats. That contrast was just killer.
  • RE 'wanting nice things is anti-jeep' - Nicer options on the highest spec make everything on lower specs correspondingly nicer too. If FCA wants me to spend $$, then I want some modern goodies too.
  • RE pentastar vs inline 6 - yeah I have the same thoughts, but I want an EcoD anyways.
  • RE 'life is too short' - I agree, and honestly I've always been a little scared that even when I meet the arbitrary budget goal I've set, I'll still be hesitant to pull the trigger. I've just wanted a JK and then a JT for so long that it kinda feels unreal to be within reach. I put a grand into TSLA a few years ago and my wife is trying to convince me to dump it now, lol. That would put me over the top for sure.
  • RE MY 2025/27 being the refresh - yeah I can see this happening too. Will be interesting to see.
Thanks for the thoughts. Definitely leaning towards pulling the trigger sooner rather than later now. Still hoping that by the time MY 2022 ordering opens up we'll know more about whether or not MY 2023 will be anything special.

If you want it, and can afford it, then don't wait. Option it like it may be the last one you ever buy. You don't know what the future holds for you. Why spend a long time doing without and dreaming of what might be, when you could be enjoying it now?
I agree with this. You can have two extra years of fun if you can afford to get it now. Run that through the fomo equation. You are missing out right now. The only thing I’m going to be bent out of shape about is if they figure out how to make the rear window roll down. Every time I get in mine I enjoy it but I am a Jeep newbie. Best of luck with your decision

With all the money put into mods surprised I haven’t heard of wrapping the JT in the color you want. Sarge or Gobi.

Wait until you reach your savings goal. Then casually test drive a few. Try a bunch out to see which trim and options you love and which ones might not be worth it to you. Go slow, maybe one every week or so - stretch it out if you are on the fence. You may have a moment when it just feels right to pull the trigger and if you don’t, just wait. Reading this back thinking buying a car and dating are a lot alike.
