Glass coverage is cheap and no deductible.
Just curious - is that a MI thing?
I know some states regulate this. Curiosity, that's all.

There is no free lunch on glass coverage whether a state mandates it or not. The cost is levelized to everybody regardless.
That's a given. Like my son says - he gets great coverage in FL, but the cost is crazy. (because it's forced on everyone want it or not)

Interesting. What company? $180 for 6 months of full coverage is pretty damn tempting. I increased all my deductibles to $1,000 from $250 last year to save money. It has already netted me over $500 in savings. In about 6 months it will be over $750 in savings, so even a claim then would be a wash. I will check if my company offers $5,000 deductibles. I have had one insurance claim in almost 40 years of driving.
Soooo, what you’re trying to say is you’re due for a claim. Just kidding just kidding (I hope I didn’t jinx you).
I raised mine to $1,000 deductible a few years ago when they first started raising prices. Insurance is getting crazy (in California anyways).

Glass coverage is something we can add to our auto policy.

Interesting. With ours, it's all part of it under comprehensive. Never had a policy without it. Even on my classics, there's comprehensive which includes glass.

Another safety “mod” for those who are interested is to tint the inside of the windshield with a 95ish percent transmission. It is virtually clear, cuts UV / heat, and reduces if not eliminates the spalling @ShadowsPapa is referencing. While potentially not strictly legal in some states it is so transparent no one notices mine.

I added a hood bug deflector since day 1. Approaching 5 yrs on the original glass. I get hits alot but mostly hitting the upper windshield frame area.

I was told the same in Virginia Beach area several months back, same insurer USAA too.

I went with standard MOPAR windshield which is thicker and added the ExoSheild which is holding up quite well. Already went through two Gorilla Glass windshields.
Did you install the ExoShield?I gotta look into that.

I had my Tint guy do it. It's supposed to be DIY, but i would royally mess that up.
Especially for what it cost. I didn't want to take the risk of doing it myself.

My girlfriend helped me install the ExoShield. Not too hard. I watched their YouTube instructions a couple times to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
It did take a couple weeks to fully dry though. I bought their kit off Extreme-terrain. It did not include the squeegee or the solution in the box (as stated in their video)?? So I had to buy a hard squeegee.
I have been too paranoid to run my windshield wipers though. I don’t want to scratch it as I heard it can get scratches if there is dirt on your windshield.

Just got my 21 gorilla glass replaced two weeks ago. I tried to do it last year, they said gorilla glass wasn't an option. I waited 6 months, they said it would be 90 days minimum, called me back the next day and said they found some.

I like the false sense of security GG offers me, but in reality it was cracked from three separate occasions. I don't know if it really is more resistant to cracks - I can tell you it definitely will crack. Good news is it didn't cost much more than a normal windshield.

Good luck!

I replaced my wipers when I replaced my windshield and added the ExoShield. I use my wipers almost daily for past 3 months. Zero scratches. I have also taken some direct hits from road debris, and zero chips or cracks so far... knocking on wood.

I bought my 2024 Jeep Gladiator Moja in August of 2024. It came with Gorilla Glass, which I heard was more durable. Since then it cracked in multiple places, mainly from rocks kicked up on the highway. I am trying to have the windshield replaced using USAA and Safelite. They have called the dealer, and were told that glass is on back order, with no ETA. I live in Charleston, SC, and wanted to find out if anyone else has heard of this shortage? Not sure if this was regional? I have been waiting 2 months now, so I figured I would reach out to you guys to see if you have heard anything.
Gorilla glass isnt anymore durable than regular glass .

Tell that to Apple, Samsung and others.
Yeah, it is - far more.

the problem is people just don't get the science behind those windshields, what they do or don't do.

It CAN crack, it CAN chip - but in reality, it's NOT the GG that is chipping or cracking, it's the OUTWARD later or ordinary soda lime glass. The GG is denser and can actually absorb some of the energy of impact - resulting in studies from multiple companies showing a reduction in cracks of ~60%.
Will or can that outer layer still bust? Sure. But will it do so as often as without GG? No.
