I have run 315s on AEV wheels and that was how it felt to me. There no 315 width tires that can be mounted on the stock 7.5” wide rims.
I got 315 70 17 BFG KO2 tires mounted on my stock wheels and it drives as good as or maybe better than the stock tires. I also have 1.75" wheel spacers as well but I ran them on it without the spacers for 2 months before deciding I wanted a little wider stance and some poke. My stock wheels are 17x7.5 black steelies.

How it sits now

By recommendations no, but that is simply not true as far as if they fit or not.
Plenty of people running around on tires of these sizes and no issue.

I am one of them.

Glad it is working out for you guys but the tire manufacturer’s say you need a wider rim than the stock 7.5” for a 315 and many places will not mount them on rims that do not meet the spec.

Just what places want do it because I'm yet to find one around my area, Sears, Discount Tire, Mavis, NTB, Brothers tire, Sam's, all places in my area of NC where I have not had a issue getting them mounted. I've even had Discount Tire And Sears mount 37x12.5-17's on my stock JKU wheels which were 17x7.5. I know plenty of people who run them and hard core off them on stock wheels. In 20 plus years of it I've never heard of a issue anyone has ever had with running them like that. Maybe the manufacturer says you can't do it but it most definitely can be done and can get done without issues

I ran 315/70/17 on stock 7.5" wheels in past (now on 8.5")

they work on both, on the 7.5 they look smaller though and as far as I have read they are almost like a poor mans bead lock on 7.5" rims.

I do agree that the 315/70/17 (35 equiv) track slightly due to width, although I feel it is worth it because it is really minor and the benefit in the looks department and off road department outweighs it for me. It really feels close to stock rubicon. Then again, I am now thinking of jumping up to 37x12.5x17 so I may have lost my mind.

315/70/17 BFG C-rated tires are really exceptional on these JTs (and JLs) as they ride like stock but look really good and performance is excellent on and off road

Nope I'm going 37 12.5 17 BFGs as soon as these 315 BFGs wear out. Should of done it from the start. They will be mounted on my 17x7.5 steelies by the company that gives me the best quote, @Discount Tire

For reference I got E Rated BFGs and prefer them over the C rated tires. I can't tell the difference in how they ride but I got about 16,000 more miles out the E Rated tires ad compared to C Rated that's the main reason I run them
