I think black top and fenders go with every color on the wrangler and gladiator. Body matched fenders or top or both would really depend on the color.

The fully color matched wranglers just always looked weird to me like a square block that's trying to look like a budget G-wagen.

...I like the notion that the hard top doesn't belong and its a cue to the world that hey this baby comes off unlike the roof on your truck

Yes. I almost said in my post above that I like the top a different color. My reason is similar to yours. Jeeps were originally born with rag tops that looked clearly different from the body, regardless of color. Then when they started offering hard tops as an option they were still different. Paint matched tops are a relatively new thing, and I'm 56 so I've seen lots of those old Jeeps on the road through the years. That's why in my mind it just seems more proper to see a Jeep with an unmatched top.

Back to topic - I'm not sure why I like the look of black fenders better. After all, black plastic ones are a more recent thing that I believe started with the Wrangler, so given what I just said about tops you'd think I would like paint matched better. I guess I've had enough time seeing them to acccept them as proper and like them.

I'm 52 so I am glad to hear I am not the oldest to be getting one of these toys! hehe. That would actually be a good thread...Anyway I like the black fenders as well. I was originally going to get them. It was basically a 50/50 thing with me. No wrong choice
