Rooting an Android device and play via Android Auto probably is the easier solution. But, there is a way to hardwire something in. I was working on hardwiring a Raspberry Pi to use as a digital display for extra gauges, just haven't gotten around to installing it yet.I’ve never seen it asked. I don’t have the 8”, but I understand it can handle both the backup camera and a front facing trail camera. Assuming these 2 cameras aren’t already both installed, maybe you could put a video input source in its place? Specifically, the trail cam.
Otherwise, it looks like you may be able to root an android device and play video over Android Auto. Again, I’ve never tried, but that sounds like the easier approach.
Android can be rooted (hacked). iOS? Not so much. Neither platform offers this functionality out of the box, though. So android auto is the way to go, no such option for iPhone?
So the short answer to this is yes. You have a couple of options. My first choice would be get rid of the factory uConnect and put an aftermarket stereo like the Stinger Heigh10. It has more video inputs and is designed to work with the Jeep. I have not tried this yet but i will doing this upgrade soon.Just picked up my truck yesterday and already the kids (and wife) are wondering if we can watch a movie on the Navi screen. I’m sure this has been answered before, maybe someone can provide a link?
