Agree with you on that, but the plug in hybrid is not the same as a full hybrid that just adds the ability to charge being plugged in. A plug in hybrid does not charge from the gas engine in the same way a full hybrid does.
Wrong. See above. Will charge from battery and many (most) charge from the electric motor also.

A plug in hybrid does not charge the battery when you drive it, once the battery is exhausted it has to be plugged back in, you may get a couple percent from regenerative braking but it does not recharge like a full hybrid.
100% incorrect. I see below you said look at the 4xe JL forum, I think you should go read more. There is an option that has to be turned on MANUALLY for the battery to be charged off ICE/regen.
Well it’s a hybrid not a full on electric as is the Tesla.

I know so many hate the Prius, but I had the Prius V (a hybrid) for my Medical device sales route. I drove then about 800+ miles a week, got 44 mpg, with the rear seats out loaded with up to 6 total knee sets and implants OR 4 total hip sets and all of the implants, front passenger seat still open. That thing would Cruise 80+ mph. I drove that one 150,000 HARD miles.

375 HP and 470 torque!!!! Up to 50 mpg. That’s nuts!!

Diesel at 260 HP and 490 TQ!
Up to 28 mpg.

So my point is this hybrid stuff has been around a long time and it is very good. The only thing that I find hard to believe is up to 50mpg, and only 370 miles per tank. When the gladiator gets it, and it will, the range should be much higher.
It is not 50mpg, it's 50mpge. That e on the end is important. You get the equivalent of 50mpg UNTIL the battery runs out, then it's the standard 4cyl mpg. There is a reason it has under 400mi range overall. I still want 1, but that e is tricky lol.

The gas savings on the 4XE Is a nice perk but the real advantage is the extra power and instant torque.

Buy this thing if you want a jeep wrangler with more power and don't want to deal with a supercharger or hemi swap

Don't buy this if you are looking to find big gas savings or electric only lifestyle.

Though better gas millage than a normal wrangler, it is not good enough that you would ever recuperate the difference in cost over a standard one.

I woke up this morning, saw this thread, drove down to our local dealer and they had 3 to test drive. I chose the fully loaded rubicon and it was pretty cool. The thing was definitely peppy on stock wheels and tires and still pulls at 75 on the highway. I wasn’t really thinking about the data and should have taken more pictures, but for a quick reference my 6 mile trip was half neighborhoods w/ many stop signs and a quick 2.5 miles on the highway (where I had the pedal to floor the whole time :)). The battery was at 10% when I got in and died shortly after we merged on the highway. Overall that trip averaged 28.8 mpg per the vehicle computer and was pretty impressed with how it performed at <1% battery. Overall it was cool, but not cool enough to pull me out of a gladiator. This system in a dark blue gladiator with uconnect 5 may be harder to pass up when it comes...

*edit: Also, the charge plug A pillar cowling is way uglier in person than anything I’ve seen online.

Well ok,, but it’s rolling on 20’s from the factory!! That makes it worth the money right there. It’s a bargain at $51,543!

Here you go, they won’t let anyone test drive as they just got it in. My wife wants one... but not white.

Awesome pics! Thanks for going back and taking a bunch for us.

Also, anyone else think those wheels looks thinner than average for some reason? Maybe it's just the pics...

All 4xe or just Sahara? I hope just Sahara, cuz I want a 4xe rubi but I don't want to have to go buy new wheels for a new Jeep D:

Your welcome, wish I could test drive it.

They look decently wide, it’s the picture with tire dressing I think.

Thought I read somewhere the 20” JL wheels are 8” wide vs the 17” and 18” 7.5” wide width.

Agree with you on that, but the plug in hybrid is not the same as a full hybrid that just adds the ability to charge being plugged in. A plug in hybrid does not charge from the gas engine in the same way a full hybrid does.

It charges the battery from depleted to full in 2 hours at 55+

The PHEV is exactly the same operation as a regular hybrid, but has a biggery battery that you can self charge. Or not. It’s totally a background process, or one that through the the controls, change to your preferences on power management.

Exactly - anyone buying these electric cars thinking they are doing something for "the environment" is being sold a lie. The technology is cool and the torque/power and other advantages this offers is certainly there, but the whole "electric cars are more sustainable" thing is total nonsense.
Keep in mind…the largest lithium car battery manufacturer in the world is CHINESE.

Two ways to get lithium

Extraction Process:
The lithium extraction process uses a lot of water—approximately 500,000 gallons per metric ton of lithium. To extract lithium, miners drill a hole in salt flats and pump salty, mineral-rich brine to the surface. After several months the water evaporates, leaving a mixture of manganese, potassium, borax and lithium salts which is then filtered and placed into another evaporation pool. After between 12 and 18 months of this process, the mixture is filtered sufficiently that lithium carbonate can be extracted. Dead animals and fish are already being found after coming into contact with the waste from this process.

Open Pit Mining
Open pit mining is conducted in among other places including the U.S. A. is Australia, Africa and South America.

Removing the lithium from the ore is done with the industrial economy’s dissolver of choice, the notoriously corrosive and toxic SULFURIC ACID. Let me ask just where the used Acids are going to be dumped….. I know where, in those deep, deep, open pit mines where the thousands of tons of ore were mined… that’s where. In addition, the making of a lithium car battery pack includes the use of:
  • Epoxy
  • Urethane
  • Silicone
  • Acrylic
  • Polyester
  • Copper
  • Nickle
  • Lead
  • Tin
  • Aluminum
Additionally, the Housing will consist of plastics like:
  • PVC
  • PET
  • Polystyrene
As an example:

• Lithium brines typically contain less than 0.1% lithium, so that entails some 25,000 pounds of brines to get the 25 pounds of pure lithium.(d)

Cobalt ore grades average about 0.1%, thus nearly 30,000 pounds of ore.(e)

Nickel ore grades average about 1%, thus about 6,000 pounds of ore.(f)

Graphite ore is typically 10%, thus about 1,000 pounds per battery.(g)

Copper at about 0.6% in the ore, thus about 25,000 pounds of ore per battery.(h)

In total then, acquiring just these five elements to produce the 1,000-pound EV battery requires mining about 90,000 pounds of ore. To properly account for all of the earth moved though—which is relevant to the overall environmental footprint, and mining machinery energy use—one needs to estimate the overburden, or the materials first dug up to get to the ore. Depending on ore type and location, overburden ranges from about 3 to 20 tons of earth removed to access each ton of ore.(i)

This means that accessing about 90,000 pounds of ore requires digging and moving between 200,000 and over 1,500,000 pounds of earth—a rough average of more than 500,000 pounds per battery. The precise number will vary for different battery chemistry formulations, and because different regions have widely variable ore grades. It bears noting that this total material footprint does not include the large quantities of materials and chemicals used to process and refine all the various ores. Nor have we counted other materials used when compared with a conventional car, such as replacing steel with aluminum to offset the weight penalty of the battery, or the supply chain for rare earth elements used in electric motors (e.g., neodymium, dysprosium).(j) Also excluded from this tally: the related, but non-battery, electrical systems in an EV use some 300% more overall copper used compared with a conventional automobile.

Jeep and the Chinese, can just keep their battery operated junk.
