So I noticed these dings or dents on the sides of the gas cover after washing my jeep a few months ago. I thought i looked over the whole jeep for dents or dings before purchasing and thought there were none. Anyways, i came to the conclusion that the bends were probably from the tension of the clamps from the tonneau cover right behind the other side of the gas cover because the side were the weakest point because of the cut out. So i was driving past a dealer today and saw about 5 gladiators in stock so i drove into the lot. Well what did i see? All 5 gladiators had the bends on the upper corners of the gas cover. It almost looks like people used the cut out as a handle and made a bend it the panel. Look at your jeeps, im curious how many have the same dings. I attached a picture, you have to look at it from the sides like your looking for a door ding. Itll be easy to see once you look.

Not trying to minimize your concern bud, just letting you know it’s a normal body line.

It’s a Jeep thing.

If you look at your doors under certain lighting conditions it will show similar distortions.

Trust me, its not normal body lines. Look for it, you may have it, you may not. Its on the lower bend and upper bend, definitive bend lines.

In sheet metal term some called it back fold or horse shoe or coning,
its common and operator couldn't really see it unless we put it under the light,
Also easy fix by correcting the machine pressure or speed.
Don't worry about it, it add some character to the truck.

Mine came with a ding off the transport under the rear tail lamp. I wasn't to concerned as I new I would probably put a ding in it that weekend on the trail.

Mine has this in the same place. I just thought the Line X guys did it when they were spraying the truck. Glad to know it was always there.

I noticed the exact same distortions on a JT that was sitting in the showroom of my dealer. I then looked at 6-8 other JTs on the lot, and they all had the exact same distortions. I'm assuming my Mojave will have them as well when I take delivery. I may actually have my PDR guy take a look at them since he needs to stop by for a door ding on my wife's car. Since they aren't sharp dings, I think they could be corrected fairly easily with a glue pull. For some reason, the gradual waves in the doors don't really bother me, but I think the ones around the gas door are going to bug me.

What is weird is how some cars/trucks have these types of production distortions and some don't. For example, my wife's 2017 Mazda CX-5 is as close to perfection as possible (IMO), but my 2019 Audi Allroad has distortions & waves all over the place (doors, hood, fenders, around the fuel filler door - it's a mess).

I'm actually hoping that someone will eventually make a JK-ish fuel filler door assembly that will cover up most of the distortion:
