I’ve seen many posts about 5%,7%,8% and such below invoice and there’s some stuff I either don’t know or don’t understand. How is everyone finding out the invoice price and that you’re getting XX% off of it? Does the dealer show you? I’m not sure I would believe it if that was the case . The reason I ask and say that is because I was a computer programmer for a warehouse distributor of auto parts and accessories for about 15 years. I wrote their business to business web site where jobbers (auto parts store owners and managers) could order things from us. There had to be at least 5 to 10 levels of pricing and our salesmen made these jobbers feel like they were getting a deal when we were making a profit plus an extra profit on shipping. A lot of times they were getting a decent deal but we made our money too. A salesman once told me hey we gotta keep the lights on too! That stuck with me.

So I guess my point is writing and maintaining the web site and prices for all those years made me skeptical of manufacturers and salesman telling you you’re getting a great price.

I don’t doubt most if not all of you did great with your deals I just get wary of pricing that salesman give me. I don’t know. Just a thought.

I got a middle of the road deal I think. I got a loaded Overland msrp 52 for 47. Traded a 21 Tacoma with 3500 miles for what I paid for it so all in all it cost me 7K cash. I can live with that.

Invoice prices are pretty readily available for most makes and models if you look. There are services that you can pay to get this info (which may be required for some makes/models), but often google will tell you if you ask nice enough. It's not really much of a secret.

The easiest way to find the JT invoice prices are to check out the spreadsheet located here:
https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...diator-pricing-worksheet-google-sheets.17566/

All the options and their associated costs across all the trims, complete with a financial calculator.

Then there are a handful of dealers willing to play ball if you know where to go, who to talk to, and what to ask. The deepest discounts that seem to be happening are coming out of two dealers: Gupton (ask for Daniel) and SLC (ask for Elliot). You need to have the Tread Lightly discount, special order, no trade in, and use their financing to get the full 8% under invoice.

In a lot of places (i.e. Denver), dealers simply won't play. When I went to buy a truck back at the end of 2019, it was full MSRP or pound sand. The salesman didn't like it when I characterized it that way, but also didn't say or do anything to dispel that characterization. He knows I won't do better anywhere near by, and someone else will be along shortly to make up for the missed sale. Jeeps are super popular around here, topped only maybe by Subaru Outbacks.

Oh wow thanks guys. Then I guess I did get a middle of the road deal. Not doing cartwheels but not having a bag over my head either (what's that - the carfax commercial??)
I got full price for my trade in and 3% off invoice. I can live with that.

I'm learning.........

It's a good deal if you can afford it and it makes you happy. Any time you buy something there's always going to be someone who "made a better deal".
(and the dumb carfax commercials are making it worse by shaming people if they didn't do as well as someone else)

If it was good for you and your situation, it was a good deal.

True. I never thought of it that way.
What I find really helps is if you bite the bullet once and buy a relatively pricey vehicle that holds it value (Jeep, Toyota) you get a really nice trade in on it and it helps tremendously in getting a new vehicle with all the options you want without killing you financially. Keep it for a few years then do the same thing. You get the extra added value of always (or for the most part) having a vehicle that's under warranty.

Thanks for the insight and info to all of you
