The Lightning is a bad joke built by clueless idiots, but it will sell to trend-humping fashion lemmings who need their trucks to match the other dudes. Towing and camping are two reasons I'm really looking forward to the CT; enough power output to run anything without a generator, and much much much better at towing than the Gladiator. The Gladiator replaced a JKUR which really sucked for towing, and it's much better. But 10 MPG with a travel trailer? WTF!

Clueless idiots? The F150 is the best selling vehicle for 30+ years and I doubt they are going to let that record fall. But yeah they don’t know what they are doing (glass houses and all)…

Exactly, they think they can simply parlay past success on a different platform into a new one. They are ignoring the opportunity to do it right. EVs shouldn't be saddled with the old paradigms. This is why Tesla is years ahead of all the other EVs.

As a truck guy, I look forward to getting rid of the diesel problems and still having the capabilities of one. 500+ mile range (my bladder is more like 250), and charges faster than the piss/drink/food stop takes. I've already done some electric road trips, there's just no penalty.

I tend to agree. My only concern is with winter. If a bad wreck on an icy highway can stop traffic for many hours, and you're already low on charge because the computer calculated you'd have enough to reach the charging station a few miles away, but well now you might not. Family might freeze? I can't find any issues with Tesla drivers being caught in snowstorms and freezing, so maybe I am overthinking it.

The other hesitation I have on trading the JT for a Tesla: this was my first Jeep, truck, and vehicle that took my firstborn home. It's had tens of thousands of memories with my family so far. I'd rather just get a Tesla (which hopefully the JT will be paid off by the time the tri-motor version comes on the lots)

My 2 automotive passions are getting way out in the boonies and driving on racetracks. EV just isn't suitable for these yet.

Not directed at you, but after researching for a while and now owning one, the vast majority of people who think they "can't" do some thing are just completely unaware that it's really not true. I think it's understandable, but it leads to a lot of discussions where a person "knows" what they can't do well, and it's just not factual.

The closest I have seen it sort-of work is a guy that brings 2 Teslas to the track. He has to alternate every other session. Now, how do you get 2 EVs to the track? I guess you could tow them with your Cybertruck. Me, I just drive my V8 powered car.

They will have some EV charging at the track, and there are superchargers nearby so you can take a drive and fill up. Like I said, non issue. But certainly, slightly less convenient than a bottle of gas for that scenario.

I don't agree it's a non-issue based on my experience. Maybe it's different in AZ, but I have only been to 1 track with EV chargers that I can recall. I do think it will get better with time.

I've been on track with a Tesla before and he didn't finish any of his sessions, but I didn't ask him why. My impression was they didn't corner well and just blasted down the straights, not my thing. This was several years ago though. I haven't seen a Plaid on track yet.

Ok, but for reals I’ll see you at the gas station to fill in 5 mins or less... wait, you have to go to special locations and wait up to an hour to get some charge. I hope they have charging stations on all of your routes.

They roll in supercharger trucks, and there are 50a connections in the bays already for tools. A 240v 50a will charge at about 36 MPH. But you are absolutely correct that I really don't know until I do it, how it will go. They make it sound fine, who knows. Until doing a road trip, I wasn't totally sure what to expect. Although I did one trip with the JT pretending that it was an EV and stopping where that software told me to.

You have that same thought process when you're low on gas, don't you?

"I have enough to get to the gas station. Oh look, a bad crash. Road closed. Now I have to drive out of my way and hope I get to a station before I run out."

Granted, fuel stations are plentiful.

Tesla & others really should partner with gas stations to install chargers. If a Tesla owner has to wait an hour at the Chevron station, do they not think the owner will grab a Slim Jim and a Monster or more?

There are no hour-long waits; that's a myth. I'm not even sure how the hell that got spread around. On my last trip from Phoenix to Los Angeles I had planned stops for 11 minutes and another for 18. But by the time I walked in to pee, get a drink, and get food on the second stop, the car was already over the requested time. It takes longer than most people think to just do a stop. Although I'm no longer one of those people trying to beat time and trying to be more relaxed anyway.

On the way back I decided to push my limits and was going to make it home with only about 4% battery. I wanted to see what would happen. There was a bad crash. I-10 totally stopped for miles. I ended up at home with 2% left. BUT...I also passed two more superchargers and a shitload of J-chargers where I could have topped up. The grocery store a couple miles from my house has two chargers. Totally not an issue.

Yeah, that sounds like something special done just for an all EV event.

I have seen someone do it using track facilities, he just needed 2 of them.
