3” is right on the edge IMO. If you are looking for cost effective way to run 40s I would look at an AEV lift or a Mopar lift + front spacer + geometry correction brackets + adjustable front track bar. This is assuming you are getting a Rubicon with high clearance fenders. If not, you will still need high clearance fenders when stuffed, but “should” be fine without the fenders if not really off roading.Honestly I think it is just my own perception of wheel gap ratio between tire and fender. But yeah as you say a 3.5 is an option and much cheaper for a .5" difference. I won't be wheeling it hard.
