Windshield questions

A few questions:

I got the Dreaded rock chip and crack to the windshield yesterday. Ugh!

1) I do NOT have the Advanced Safety with ACC (auto cruise) and auto braking for collision avoidance but DO have the blind spot and cross path detection.
If I’m having window replaced do I have sensors I need to be concerned with?

2) Pros and/or Cons repair vs replace?

3) OEM or aftermarket windshield?

4) Gorilla glass?

I’ve driven him for over a year, trip from LOs Angeles to Houston TX, travelled county roads for a month, drive in LA traffic with constant construction and never ride behind a work truck but yesterday it happened...on the freeway, no trucks in sight...I guess I’ll consider myself lucky we avoided it for so long. Still sucks! Especially since it’s out of pocket or $500 with insurance deductible Damn!!

I would get the Gorilla Glass, or the OEM if it's not available. There are only sensors looking through the windshield when the ACC/FCW system is installed.

Before it cracks, rock chips can be repaired. It's usually difficult to tell where the damage was, and the Insurance company normally covers the cost.

Went through 2 within my first 5000 miles. Bought the HPG windshield, and I am at 21k with no issues and have had 3 major strikes to the glass.

No sensors to be concerned with in your case.
BUT - same can be said even on trucks like mine with the adaptive cruise, etc.
That's a myth that's become fact because it was repeated so often. These actually learn by themselves, there is NOTHING a glass company needs to do as far as calibration. Put the system in calibration mode, drive it - done.
A DEALERSHIP collision center replaced my glass - no 'calibration charge'.
My systems all work perfectly.

If a glass company is charging extra for calibration on the Gladiator, they are ripping people off.

Once a chip is a crack, no repair. Only chips are repaired and they must be within a certain size range. So if you have a true "crack" - it's replacement time.
I've had multiple windshields repaired, but they were always very small chips smaller than a dime as far as any "spidering" from the chip. One was done 10 years ago, another 3 years ago, so it's typically successful if you do or can have it done. (and most insurance companies cover repairs 100%)
