Pretty much agree with you. Just the 5.0 radio is in a league of it's own in terms of suck in my opinion.

If was an audiophile I would say aftermarket also.
Ha do you not remember the economy radio in the Jk? This 5 is like the space station comparatively speaking

Ugh even the 7 and 8.4 suck. They are water resistant which is nice but uconnect in Chrysler is just poorly developed. Apple car play and android auto both made poor decisions with using it In windowed mode and having a smaller border around car play instead of full screen. Honestly best going after market.
Android auto is full screen on the 7 inch display. However, I actually wish it wasn't. I want windowed mode. it would make it easier to switch back to the car's menus and controls without having to find the uconnect icon in android auto. An option to choose would be nice, but I'm happy with the 7 inch display. I had a ram as a loaner with the 8.4, and noticed it used windowed mode. I liked that better.

I was please to be able to upgrade my basic to basic with Sirius (1oo bucks, 6 mo. used, on this forum) . Self installed Mopar Sirius antenna in stock location on roll bar No reception issues like a few others have had.

Yes, digital delay on volume after unit powers up, and starts playing ( I turn the volume all the way down the night before 4 AM deer hunting engine starts to be kind to neighbors). Yes the clock needs resets and is slow. Otherwise, I will keep it and maybe get some new speakers. All the control options in the basic are very handy settings and I appreciate them. We did not by Cadillacs! And to be clear, I live by my music 24/7.

Had this Sport since 8/2019 and just recently found the Mute button on the radio and the black out button. This is living large from where I sit.

Uconnect just has issues In general. My 12 inch Laramie can’t do full screen reverse or full screen apple car play. Only half. At least it does not have a bright orange box around it. That’s what bothers me the most.

It may be full screen, but when I use Google Maps, I get only the middle 1/2 of the screen that has the map, the rest is google crap. That's one reason I use waze when using AA - it gives you more map and less crap on the screen. If it was windowed I'd find it almost unusable.

So - make it a choice - like Bill Gates did when he ran mickysoft........... full screen or in a window with a simple single icon up in the corner to change modes.

But like my son says - UCONNECT is so 1990s, it's amateurish and old style.
The icons are huge, take up a lot of space, when in android auto apps need to be cleaner. That screen is a distance away from my eyes, to have to look over and figure out "what's that say" or do...... takes attention off the road. There's been times I've had to pull over so I could see what it was showing. I need to get a pic of how Google Maps displays on mine - the left side has stuff I don't give a rip about - just take me there, make all other things besides the map just disappear.

No problems with mine and I love the fact that I don't have to worry about door lock motors or power window motors going bad. My radio hasn't given me any trouble since they did an update last January on the jeep. Not sure what they did but it improved the lag in mine. Forget about it keeping time for more than 2 weeks, every jeep i have ever owned had this problem as far as wranglers and now the gladiator

Hmmm... The sound system in my Sport S works extremely well. It's not the top of the line, but it does have the sub woofer. I can plug in my iPhone and stream Apple Music flawlessly. The microphone works fine. All I have to do is say, "Hey Siri, play Jackson Browne" and within seconds "On the Boulevard" is playing. The display clearly shows the current song playing, the artist and the album it came from. What's not to like?

To those with a 5" stereo, about $500 and some elbow grease will get you much better sound.

Replace all 4 speakers and buy a $200 4 Chanel amp with speaker level inputs. Done. It won't win you any sound competitions but it will sound worlds better than stock and may even sound better than the "enanced" sound system that comes with the 8.4.

Check the marketplace or forum sales sites to see if maybe someone has a 7" model to replace it. I have found my 7" to be very good. Better than my 8.4 I had in my Ram as far as not having to deal with bugginess, etc. But I think a lot of the bugs in my 8.4 had to do with the uconnect service as it just never worked.

For what it's worth, the ELS Studio surround sound in our Acura RDX A-Spec is the best sound system I've ever heard in any automobile. Unreal. However, the convoluted interface to get to it sucks donkey. Seriously. The U-Connect 7 in my JT is much more intuitive and easy to navigate. Sounds about half as good (if that), but easier to use for sure.

So I understand that my Gladiator is not a luxury car, but I do appreciate the easy Apply Car play (and plug n play ability) of U-Connect.

Wow.

Do the headlights dim when a bass note hits?

Uconnect with the 8.4" is great if you don't use your phone to connect to it. lol

I have the 5" radio and besides one reboot on a trip it has been trouble free, knock on wood. I use Apple music and just hit the media button twice and I am off and running , using off roam holder my phone is right next to radio when using maps so poor mans apple play.
