What the heck are these two “buttons” for? They automatically depress when the hood is closed. A co-worker who had a JK said one of them will disconnect the “auto-start/stop” button so I don’t have to keep manually doing it every time I drive. If that’s the case I fully plan to disconnect it but I wanted to get an actual answer before I do anything.

One is for the alarm system.
The other, I believe, is the hood open indicator for the system (BCM, ECU, I'm not sure which.)
Yes, you can disconnect one of them to defeat the ESS, but then the ESS fault indicator will be on all the time.

If you disconnect the switch to kill the ESS, you'll also disable remote start if yours has that option.

Yes I have remote start and use it a lot. Don’t want to lose that functionality. Thanks for the heads up!

Awesome I’ll check that out. Thanks!!
You should really look at a Tazer JL Lite. It's going to be the most cost effective way to, at a minimum, disable auto start/stop and program for the larger tires you're looking to install.

I was actually just shopping for something like that. I haven’t seen the “lite” version yet. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

It just has fewer features than the full version. You can also pay the difference to upgrade to the full version down the road if needed.

It's the most expensive way to disable ESS and change tire sizes.
You can put in a timer circuit for a few bucks (and I mean a few) - there's YT videos on that, and you can change tire sizes with JSCAN (for about 100 bucks or so total with cables and everything)
Tazer is fine, good product if you need all the live features but for all other stuff, there's cheaper ways.
I've done everything I need to do - with JSCAN and/or AlfaOBD and haven't spent 200 bucks.
